VIDEO | Raipur: Environmental Activist Alok Shukla voices outrage over Hasdeo Arand tree felling approval; disputes official data and says, " The decision by the Central Ministry of Forest and Environment for felling of trees is a very destructive step for Chhattisgarh. The Hasdeo forest, which is a rich and diverse, dense forest area, is a natural Sal-forest region. It is the catchment area of the Hasdeo river, irrigating 4 lakh hectares of land from the Bango dam. It is a corridor for wildlife, and the livelihood and culture of the tribals are all dependent on that forest.
It is important to note that no-go area or the study conducted by the Wildlife Institute of India recently clearly stated that if mining happens in Hasdeo, it will have devastating effects. The Bango-Hasdeo dam will face a crisis, and human-elephant conflict will become severe. On January 26, 2022, the Chhattisgarh Assembly had passed a resolution that no mining leases should be granted in Hasdeo, however, for the profit of just one corporate, Hasdeo is continuously being destroyed."
