A special thank you to Oak Hill CC, its membership and to the members of the Society of Golf Historians who were able to join us at our first Society Summer Outing at Oak Hill CC.
There is so much to say - first and foremost Oak Hill is truly the beauty and the beast. It’s design truly proves my point that golf course architecture is a form of artwork- this Donald Ross design and
@GreenGCA restoration is a beauty to behold. However under that veil of beauty, lies the beast. You are tantalized in the wonderment of its charms, but if your ball wanders, as golf balls tend to do, the beast will remind you that this beauty can bite.
I was fortunate to play my round with the newly appointed club historian, Kevin Horey, who later that evening gave our group a wonderful presentation on Oak Hill’s history. My friend
@AndrewRickard15 then interviewed Oak Hill’s former club historian, Fred Beltz (who appeared on Episode 102 & 103 of the
@talkingolf history podcast: The History & Restoration of Oak Hill) about some of his favorite experiences and memories of the club. Finally
@JohnMorton215 and I closed the evening with a talk on our golf collections and some amusing stories behind the history of those relics (some stories you will never ever hear on my podcast).
I couldn’t have asked for a better event- again thank you to Andrew, Kevin, Fred and the amazing staff at Oak Hill for making this a success!
