No adverts during the hydration break on Telemundo. I know it's been mentioned quite a few times before, but still good to see. All the focus on the players and coaches.

🗣️ "My father left Cape Verde at 16. He went to Portugal, working in cafes – he was a keen baker and chef – and then he got work with a shipping company, went to the Netherlands and settled in Belgium. An Irish Ferries captain used to go into his cafe and then convinced him to go to Ireland for a weekend. He got there and never went back!" The centre-back's journey from Ireland to #WorldCup2026 is incredible fourfourtwo.com/person/playe…

The most significant development so far for Sampdoria, Tjaš Begić now signed on a long-term deal. The Blucerchiati's most creative player last season. A very positive step ahead of another season in Serie B.

Sampdoria at the World Cup. Apologies for the slightly unhinged picture. I know, you shouldn't wear club shirts, but then if you paid attention to the nonsense on social media you wouldn't do anything. Proof I was actually in attendance at the Iran - New Zealand game.

Elijah Just man of the match in the Iran v New Zealand 2-2 draw. Two skilfully taken goals. Really enjoyed it all, might be the only World Cup game I ever attend.

After a stand out season for Motherwell, Elijah Just has definitely earned himself a decent move somewhere with two extremely well taken goals against Iran.

Iran goal. Quite an entertaining game, more so than I expected.

The hydration or cooling break or whatever it's called is even worse in the stadium. Breaks everything up. Waste of time.

Lots of support for Iran in the stadium. Brilliant strike from Motherwell's Elijah Just for New Zealand.

Iran v New Zealand at the World Cup. A lot of support for Iran, not so much for the All Whites. So many different shirts here from Sampdoria (me) to Sunderland and Boca Juniors. Plenty of Mexico and Argentina shirts scattered everywhere.

Looking back on the Scotland game, the two central defenders deserve a lot of praise. The second half was an anxiety ridden affair but Hanley and Hendry were excellent. Lewis Ferguson, who hasn't always featured regularly for Bologna but should be a regular, was also great.

In the US coverage, the veteran commentator made quite a big deal about a couple of the Curaçao players and their English clubs. The same the other day for a different guy during the Swiss game continually going on about their players and German clubs. Weirdly partisan.

Obvious pros and cons to the World Cup expansion, but there was always going to be an absolute pasting in one game. Maybe not much consolation for Curaçao to have even scored a goal when they concede seven.
