I want to express my deepest condolences to the victims of tonight’s shooting. This tragedy never should have happened, but the fact that it happened outside a place of worship during a celebration of life is especially heartbreaking.Â
I’ve been in constant contact with our police department leadership throughout the evening and have full faith that their investigation will bring the suspects to justice. I’m grateful for the swift response of our 911 dispatchers, police, and fire personnel, as well as the support of multiple law enforcement agencies.

We are on scene of a shooting at 660 N. Redwood Road.
2 people were killed and at least 6 more have been injured with at least 3 of those in critical condition.
The suspects are still outstanding, but our officers have obtained solid leads and are working to locate those involved.
Redwood Road is closed in both directions from 500 N to 700 N.
Anyone with information should call 801-799-3000.

Robert Redford left a legacy on Utah and the world that won’t be soon forgotten. My heart goes out to his family and the millions who were impacted by his brilliance.
In uncertain times, I think of what he both lived for and advocated for in his actions: meaningful storytelling that brings people together by conveying complex emotions into powerful inspiration…and solace in the outdoors through his stewardship of the environment.

Thank you to the Salt Lake City Police Department for their quick action tonight to protect lives and support those marching peacefully. My heart is with you, SLC. We’ll get through this.

The patient has been taken to a hospital with life-threatening injures.
Officers are asking people to leave safely and orderly.

We have multiple law enforcement units in the area trying to verify information and to determine if there is a victim.
We have a person of interest in custody.
We are asking people to leave to leave the demonstration safely and orderly.
