Hakeem Jeffries now has more support than any Republican hoping to be speaker. If just six GOP reps were to set partisanship aside and vote for him, we could have a functioning House to do the people's business without further delay.

There’s lots of pop-antifeminism and pseudoscience out there attacking hormonal birth control, and it needs to be understood as continuous with the right wing anti-choice project.
The president of the most powerful conservative legal group in the country says banning birth control is at the top of his wishlist: “We are on a winning trajectory...It may be that the day will come when people say the birth-control pill was a mistake.” newyorker.com/magazine/2023/…

When Putin invaded Ukraine, he was counting on the democracies of the world to do nothing. But because of American leadership, we linked arms and proved him wrong. It’s in our national security interests to stand with Ukraine—and we must deliver more aid to help them fight back.

So now I’m on the benefits committee this year. We have this issue on the agenda. If your college/uni offers 12(or ) weeks FULL leave FULL pay, please drop the name of your school in the comments. We have a point to make.
In a meeting. Here, parental leave is only full pay if you continue service obligations. So a colleague is zooming in from the NICU. This is unreasonable.

Does gender affect the length of parliamentary careers? In this study we develop three measures to investigate the size of gender gaps among political seniors in 9 countries from 1965-2020. Main take-away: Balanced parliaments reduce gender gaps, but size still large. 🙏P&G! 👇

This week we’ve seen the effects of the US Republicans and UK Tories being captured by the extreme right Yes, PR may enable radical right parties to win seats But, majoritarian electoral systems have led to the extreme right gradually taking over mainstream right parties

NEW: California just became the first state in the nation to officially propose an Amendment to the United States Constitution to end our nation’s gun violence crisis. Time to enshrine 4 widely supported gun safety freedoms -- 1) Raising the minimum age to purchase a gun to 21 2) Universal background checks 3) A reasonable waiting period for gun purchases 4) Banning civilian purchases of assault weapons No more waiting around for Congress. It’s time to act. sfchronicle.com/politics/art…

Allegations aren't facts. A sham impeachment inquiry against President Biden is in no way equivalent to the Trump impeachments.

Instead of wasting time on a bogus impeachment, maybe @HouseGOP should do something about child poverty––which has DOUBLED in the last year. They had a chance to extend these programs to keep our children fed & boost working families out of poverty. But they didn't. Shameful.

So terrible that the wonderful gem that was Ontario place - a place for all- had become this fiasco
To give a sense of scale, this proposed private mega spa on the waterfront at Ontario Place is the size of 12 football fields, and is accompanied by a massive, public parking garage. There is no way to put a ‘green’ spin on a waterfront destination spa of this scale. There is no planning rationale that can justify subsidizing an outsized parking structure on prime waterfront land where children should be playing instead - especially given that we are investing billions to deliver a new subway to this locatIon. Sometimes it is better to start over than to proceed with a mistake that will last for generations. It’s time for politicians to say no. It’s time for planners to say no. #OntarioPlaceForAll theglobeandmail.com/arts/art…
