Going on a social media / tech break for a few days. Given the existing logarithms, most of you may not know until long after I'm back that I've stepped away for a short while.
The cover art combined the metal tradition of studded leather armwear with slasher/horror tradition of knives drawing blood. The Marshall may be more expensive than the shoot or rights to use it. The music is simple, but high energy. UNDER ATTACK is my old school metal favorite.

For what would've been his 85th birthday, I chose a Chick Corea disc I'm not as familiar with. On this listen I am hearing the bridge between FRIENDS and the early notes of the Elektric Band. It feels like sides of different albums making up this disc; DIDDLE feels out of place.

The afternoon performance at the Osaka Jazz Festival in Japan (the eve set would be released as PANGAEA). He was taking fusion even further than the Sly / Jimi aspirations darn near reaching avant garde Santana in spots between the percussion, the dynamics, and wild guitar bursts

This album was a needed step in their story. A way to expand beyond the long-form songs and fantasy-based cover art to something more direct and more approachable. AWAKEN enabled them to stay on brand; but WONDROUS, PARALLELS, & the title track put new wrinkles into their sound.

For me hope was lost, dead, and gone regarding a decent Dio solo album since the DEHUMANIZER project. Then quietly and humbly MAGICA found release connecting Dio to new music in the vein of his Rainbow and earlier solo work. FEVER DREAM, CHALLIS, and LOSING the key examples.

Saw a few blurbs comparing this to classic Rainbow and Yngwie. The band name also references a Loudness album title. Was hoping serendipity may work in my favor. Strong vocals overall and a great guitar solo in LUCID DREAMS; but not quite the hard rock reboot I was hoping for.

If this jazz were any smoother, it would've been prepared in a teflon pan. When it gets this smooth it is difficult for any of it to catch and it slips by. The reggae-tinged SYNCOPATION SITUATION sounds more like an exercise than a song, but is the heads-and-tails highlight here.

I often throw on music as I try to knock out other tasks. Sometimes vocals get in the way, and really familiar songs often distract. While not the best endorsement for Tangerine Dream; I do find myself listening to them often. More cinematic than the clicks & buzzes of the 70s.

After countless days of sunshine, clouds have settled in for a gray afternoon. Taking this chance to enjoy some mood-adjacent music. Ralph Towner was truly one of the greats and able to do it on multiple instruments. If Jan Garbarek had any restraint, this would be even better...

As the tour moves into first leg, I can feel the hype rising. A month out from the Chicago shows, and still not feeling motivated to get tix. The musicians are great, the catalog is great, and they probably will deliver. Blame it on an arena/stadium setting and paying for hassle.

This cover art could represent my stumble into a generation gap as I reached for then-newer harder music coming out. Korn defined a guitar sound for their generation as Metallica, Zeppelin, and Sabbath had done. Didn't connect, but I can hear the originality, talent, and ability.

At one point, AC/DC was so popular with remaking the same album over and over that other artists tried to make an AC/DC album. Trash's BURNIN' ROCK is one. Sounds like it could've come out during AC/DC's WHO MADE WHO era. Fun despite the cheapness of this Wounded Bird edition.

As someone who loved the Housemartins, I really hadn't done my due diligence on the projects that came after. Hoping to make amends after being gifted this compilation; and also touched by PRETTIEST EYES and its lyric about aging and how beauty endures it as the memories pile up.

Normally, Sundays are for mellower music; but I need to power my way out of neutral. Despite the band's inclusion on NWOBHM lists, it wasn't until I picked up the recent HR reissue that I could hear it. Notes of Saxon, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and maybe even Tygers of Pan Tang.

Usually, jams are not my jam. I like instrumental music, but recoil when it gets one-sided (oversoloing); noodle-y (running out of things to say); or falls out of structure (playing outside). Most 70s rock instrumentals are vetted before being pressed. LUNAR SEA was just right.

30 years ago, Columbia launched a Miles legacy project with a series of box sets covering noteworthy eras of his career. A metal bracketed spine held 4 albums and archival recordings across 6 cds. Also included new essays, photos, and original art/liners. The first of 8 overall.

On an edge of the power pop universe is a group of artists that should be considered Rickenbacker rock. Sounds that fuse psychedelic and garage rock alongside sweet vocal harmonies and catchy choruses. CATCH THE SPARK combines catchy and the crunchy aspects well.

Might be a little early to get this party started, but my chores won't do themselves. All killer no filler groove workouts with stops, starts, and anticipations that make his music so lively. Thought it started and ended with I GOT YOU (I FEEL GOOD); I always have much to learn.

As spring yields to summer it is time for a bit of whimsy. Though this cd seems ripe for snark; I really appreciate that he didn't round off the corners or play it safe. WEAR YOUR LOVE, JENNIFER JUNIPER, and MELLOW YELLOW are all better for it.
