In an AI-first world, attention may be easier to capture, but influence still depends on trust, value creation, and better decision-making. Prof. Shabbirhusain RV represented SPJIMR at the SpeakIn Asia Dialogues Forum 2026 in Mumbai, where he moderated discussions on how leaders are building influence and impact in an era shaped by artificial intelligence. Sharing a customer-centric perspective, he highlighted the need for organisations to move beyond simply winning attention and focus instead on helping customers understand, compare, and decide better. As he noted: “AI may help brands win a moment of attention, but only trust and value creation can turn that moment into influence.” The discussion reflected SPJIMR’s commitment to value-based, practice-oriented management thinking that combines academic insight with real-world relevance. What if the most meaningful learning didn't happen in a classroom? For one week, six students from The Manchester Metropolitan University and six Sitaras from SPJIMR's Abhyudaya initiative came together not to learn about each other, but to learn with each other. Through conversations, home visits, creative collaborations, and shared experiences, they explored questions of identity, aspiration, opportunity, and belonging. What began as a cross-cultural exchange evolved into something far more powerful: a reminder that empathy grows through human connection and that some of life's most important lessons emerge when we step into someone else's world. Project Saathi, the first collaboration between Abhyudaya and Manchester Metropolitan University, created a space where every participant was both a learner and a teacher. Because when people meet with openness, curiosity, and respect, everyone learns. Read more: bit.ly/4eng0IK #IamSPJIMR #GlobalLearning #CrossCulturalLearning #LeadershipDevelopment #SocialImpact

In a world where information is abundant and AI can generate answers in seconds, the quality of leadership increasingly depends on the quality of the questions being asked. Many organisational challenges are not solved by finding faster answers but by stepping back and examining whether the problem has been framed correctly. The way a challenge is defined often determines the range of solutions that become possible. A broader, systems-orientated perspective can reveal opportunities, interdependencies, and long-term implications that may otherwise remain overlooked. As complexity increases, the ability to frame problems thoughtfully is becoming an essential leadership capability. “The doctoral journey is truly a path worth cherishing for every curious and determined mind.” For Arti Jain, Alumna FPM 2019, the journey through SPJIMR’s Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) became an opportunity to move from industry leadership to research with meaningful social impact. With a professional background spanning electrical engineering and leadership roles at organisations such as McGraw-Hill and Tata Interactive Systems, she chose to pursue research that addressed real-world challenges in healthcare access. Her doctoral thesis — “Caring for Rural Health in Emerging Countries: Essays on Catalysing Healthcare Provision through a Technology-Enabled Social Innovation Approach” — explored how technology-led social innovation can help bridge healthcare gaps in underserved communities. Today, her journey reflects how research can extend beyond academic inquiry to create pathways for inclusive and sustainable change. When the pressure is real, theory steps aside—and mindset takes over SPJIMR recently turned into a live locker room of ideas as Brut India brought its series ‘Damn the Odds’ to campus, featuring Indian cricketer Pratika Rawal in conversation with PGPM participants. This wasn’t a highlight reel of achievements. It was an unfiltered look at what it takes to perform when the stakes are high—handling setbacks, staying composed under pressure, and focusing on what truly matters. From mental toughness to discipline, the conversation drew clear parallels between sport and leadership: ☑️Showing up when it’s hardest ☑️Staying focused on controllables ☑️Building resilience through setbacks What stood out was the exchange—questions, reflections, and moments that connected the pitch to real-world decision-making. Because whether on the field or in the boardroom, pressure doesn’t define you—how you respond to it does. Are you measuring training impact—or truly understanding it? Organisations invest heavily in learning, yet the real question persists: did it actually change anything? This piece by SPJIMR draws a critical distinction between measuring ROI and observing it—highlighting why numbers alone rarely tell the full story. While measurable ROI captures immediate, quantifiable gains like productivity or efficiency, the deeper impact often lies in what’s less visible: shifts in judgement, collaboration, ownership, and mindset. Because ultimately, measurable ROI tells you what changed. Observable ROI reveals how and why that change sustains. For organisations looking to build lasting capability—not just short-term outcomes—this distinction is not optional, it’s essential.
