STFA Statement on Paid Parental Leave The STFA applauds the initiative and leadership of @GovMurphy and @FirstLadyNJ for their continued vigilant and unwavering support of New Jerseyโ€™s state employee working families through the proposed implementation of a fully paid Parental Leave program. This program will empower workers seeking to start or grow their families by relieving the massive hardship of temporary lost wages during an exciting but extremely stressful time. No longer will any state workers be forced to choose between their paychecks and family planning. As this program comes to fruition, we hope to see it embraced across New Jersey to encompass all workers in every sector. -Wayne Blanchard STFA President

This week the STFA Foundation continued our annual tradition of shopping for school kids in our general policing areas of Warren and Sussex counties. Troopers from Washington, Hope, Netcong, and Sussex Stations got the job done to bring a little extra Christmas joy to over 50 families!

Today, on the 22nd anniversary of the line-of-duty death of Tpr. I Christopher Scales #4575, family, friends, and colleagues gathered to celebrate his life and legacy with the unveiling of a new monument to honor his memory. Erected just a short distance from Turnpike Interchange 12 where Tpr. I Scales was struck by a tractor trailer, this monument (located at the corner of Roosevelt & Harrison Avenues in Carteret) will stand as a lasting reminder of his sacrifice and bravery. We thank all involved in making this day a reality, but especially Christoper Scales Jr. for his hard work and dedication toward this amazing project to forever remember his beloved father. He will never be forgotten!

Recently the STFA received a beautiful letter from a sixth grade student at Toms River Intermediate South. This week we made a surprise visit to her class to discuss career opportunities in law enforcement. Then we took a trip outside for some extra fun. Our Aviation Unit landed on the field and the students got an up close look at one of our largest helicopters. Our Ceremonial Unit was on hand with two troop cars and the students were able to sit inside and work the lights and sirens โ€” the air horn quickly became their favorite button! Thank you to all involved for a fun, informative day. It was our honor to be your guests!

The STFA was honored to support @AnnetteQuijanoโ€™s 10th annual โ€œHunger Doesnโ€™t Take a Vacationโ€ sandwich making food drive yesterday in Elizabeth. To date, this amazing event has supplied over 10,000 meals to our stateโ€™s most vulnerable citizens.

Lt. Governor Oliver was all class. She was always present at State Police events and on several occasions she was the first government official to arrive at the hospital to meet with seriously injured Troopers. Our condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues. RIP maโ€™am ๐Ÿ™

Two New Jersey State Troopers were struck by an inattentive driver yesterday while conducting a stop. Fortunately, our Troopers did not suffer life threatening injuries but this could have easily been much worse. Please slow down and move over for stopped emergency vehicles!
