From my #Sunday #diary dedicated to extraordinary ‘Healthcare #ChangeMakers’ in our country- #Bharat “A Remarkable Full Circle Moment in Indian Oncology” It is truly inspiring to witness the extraordinary comeback of Dr. Harit Chaturvedi as he joins the Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals (my Alma mater too) is as Chief Executive Officer and Clinical Head – Oncology Network. With decades of experience in multidisciplinary cancer care and a sharp focus on precision oncology, Dr. Chaturvedi’s leadership will undoubtedly elevate clinical excellence across the oncology ecosystem. My first interaction with him left a lasting impression. He came across as a deeply humble, non-intrusive, and a true gentleman—both as a person and as a doctor. As an oncology surgeon, his singular focus was always his patients and his practice. Over the years, I often engaged with him on how he could build his personal brand. Yet, his response never changed— “My work is my only marketing.” And remarkably, he has stood by this principle for nearly 40 years—an extraordinary feat in today’s world of constant self-promotion. It is this very philosophy that has kept him at the pinnacle of cancer care in India. Today, he not only stands tall among the top cancer surgeons in the country but is also someone who commands unwavering trust—from patients, peers, and everyone who has had the privilege of interacting with him. His calm humility in dealing with a disease as aggressive as cancer is nothing short of exceptional. What makes this moment even more powerful is the journey behind it. A man who, nearly 25 years ago, stepped away amidst challenging hospital politics, now returns to the very institution at its helm. This is not just a professional milestone—it is a testament to grit, grace, and grounded leadership. Dr. Chaturvedi’s journey is a reminder that true excellence, integrity, and humility always find their rightful place. In a country where for decades proximity to power corridors, institutional clout, and “who you treat” often mattered as much as what you contributed, this signals something deeper: 👉 The Padma in Medicine has decisively shifted from being relationship-driven to being value-driven. 👉 From access to VIPs to impact on millions. 👉 From elite circles to extraordinary contribution. Look at the pattern over the last decade.
