Exploring traditional Chinese culture & blown away by watching The Peony Pavilion 牡丹亭 at the historic Zhengyici Opera Theatre 正乙祠戏楼. This Chinese Kunqu Opera is beyond beautiful. Not just a love story but one of deep human emotion transcending life & death.

Tang Xianzu 汤显祖 wrote this otherworldly classic in 1598, the year Shakespeare was writing Hamlet. In 2001, Kunqu Opera was proclaimed one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by @UNESCO I’ll definitely explore more of this beautiful repertoire…
