Immediately after: F5.2, Zonal Stats, with @SWinsemius and @jstnbraaten. Optional function parameters, buffers, computing stats in a region, copying properties to computed images, & more. Quite amazing and useful- I used some of this code just last week!

Wisdom, the world’s oldest known wild bird, recently returned to Midway Atoll! The beloved Laysan albatross, or mōlī, is at least 71 years old. Biologists first identified and banded Wisdom in 1956 after she laid an egg, and the large seabirds aren’t known to breed before age 5.

Rebecca Nagle’s second season of This Land is amazing investigative journalism and should be mandatory material for any journalists covering the ICWA case @nytimes
This article is a great example on how the @nytimes coverage of Indigenous issues doesn’t meet the basic standards of journalism. This article grossly misrepresents what happened in the underlying custody cases and the people behind the lawsuit.

I’m working at Vibrant Planet for the summer! It’s a fantastic group of folks working hard to save our forests 🌲🌲🌲
Excited to share we’ve raised $17M to expand our platform to restore at-risk forests across the western U.S., Europe, and worldwide. Thank you to @tdechant for capturing our story and mission in @TechCrunch : tcrn.ch/3NgQCDJ

Incredible recommendations from @soilsandbees!
Since today is #WorldSoilDay, I thought I'd share some of my favorite things related to soils – especially those that remind us that the line between science and society is blurred. A thread 🧵 (1/n)

In this article, reputable fire scientists put down anti-fuel-reduxxers. 👍👍👍 The scientific consensus is bulletproof & these folks are like climate deniers in their isolation and their deceitful tactics. BUT, if that bothers you, listen: 👇 1/4 sacbee.com/news/california/f…

UCs and other land-grab universities operate on and profit from stolen land. Even when the US gov drafted treaties and tribes signed, the US locked up and never ratified them #LandBack
"land-grant universities enroll 1000000 students & perform cutting-edge research, but offer little acknowledgment that the foundation for their success lies in the dispossession of Indigenous land & eradication of Indigenous people" bit.ly/30VvqPf #IndigenousPeoplesDay

Newsom just signed SB332, making CA a gross negligence state for suppression costs associated with #rxfire and giving cultural burners the same standing as burn bosses. This is a huge moment for CA and I’m so proud to have worked on it with @MichaelWWara & @SenBillDodd! 🎉❤️🔥

National preparedness level 3 means there are now enough resources for prescribed fire. However the new Forest Service Chief has proclaimed a policy variance from the published guidance saying that they will not do any burning until preparedness level 2. #thisputsusatrisk
It's been a long, difficult wildfire season. After a record-setting 99 days at National Preparedness Level 4 or 5, we are now down to Preparedness Level 3 due to a decrease in wildfires across the country and an increase in the availability of firefighting resources.

Wrote a piece with @Texosporium with some answers to common questions we get about wildfire in California (hint: a lot of it comes back to needing more #goodfire) baynature.org/2021/09/29/why…
Do you wonder why California has been experiencing so much wildfire recently, or how we can address the challenges we face with fire? @SWinsemius and I answered some common questions about wildfire in California for this piece in @BayNature baynature.org/2021/09/29/why…

Excited that AB642 was signed by Governor Newsom today! It deals with prescribed fire training and workforce issues, and it moves the needle on cultural burning! Now we need to focus our energy on SB332🤞With the Rx Fire Claims Fund and AB642, we’re 2/3! @GavinNewsom @SenBillDodd

It’s about time this conversation gained some traction. Want to invest $3B on something? Let 120 indigenous communities establish a $25M endowment fund. $1.125M per year can go a long way on the ground from an indigenous stewardship perspective. vox.com/down-to-earth/226793…

So excited that the legislature approved $20 million for a state-backed Prescribed Fire Claims Fund! Between this and SB332, we might see some much-needed change around prescribed fire in CA! @Conserve_CA @SenBillDodd @calcattlemen @CAgovernor

Excellent video showing some good fire effects in parts of the Dixie Fire. Our wildfire disasters are the lives, communities, and homes lost, not the number of acres burned!
#DixieFire - 9/12/2021. We got a chance to survey the burned area in West Zone of the Dixie Fire on 9/10/2021, right after about 1/2" of rain. This video explores the wide variety of fire effects across the burned area, and talks about some of the causes. youtu.be/s7FyUlbIfY4
