A great time in Long Island City as we honored a longtime friend, Sheila Lewandowski, upon her transition from The Chocolate Factory Theater, which she led for over 20 years. Excited to see what you'll do next @S_Lewandowski!

I'm honored to celebrate @TheChocoFactry at tonight’s gala and recognize @S_Lewandowski, whose leadership has made the arts more inclusive and helped secure $75M for cultural organizations in this year’s Council budget. Our city is richer because of your leadership and love.

Congrats to the @TheChocoFactry award recipients especially @QnsBPRichards Thank you Borough President for your support of Culture & The Arts. Great seeing @JuanArdilaNYC, presumptive leader NYS Assembly D37 and @S_Lewandowski - thank you for everything you do for all of us!!!
Come join us tomorrow to rally for Arts & Culture in NYC!
Our City is as amazing and fruitful as it is because of our cultural institutions, organizations, and creatives. Thus, our City government must provide our Cultural Community with the funding they deserve in this budget!
🪡 I'm thrilled to announce to you all that I will be the chair of the NY City Council Committee on Cultural Affairs,Libraries, and International Intergroup Relations. It’s an honor to serve in the Council in any capacity, but I'm especially excited to take on this new role.
First public stop in #SOMOSPR2021 for @ericadamsfornyc is the @ny4ca reception: “This is not about me, this wasn’t about Eric Adams, it was to send a message out to our city and country.”
Incredibly excited to join Sheila, Brian, and the entire @TheChocoFactry board as they formally launch their new space in #DutchKills. I’m proud to be a continued supporter of the arts and to have allocated nearly $3 million to make their dream of a permanent location a reality.
When you legalize basement apartments you:
1) subject them to regulations to make them safe
2) create an almost unfathomable amount of affordable housing in the middle of a housing crisis
3) can do more intense enforcement on the dangerously unsafe ones
As more scenes of flooding come in (these from #LIC constituents @S_Lewandowski & Cosme of @CASAENRIQUE), the @NYCMayor has declared a state of emergency in NYC. Thinking of all those trapped somewhere, either inside a subway car or a flooded basement apt. Stay safe everyone.
We all agree — every neighborhood deserves a community center, and a place where artists can create, rehearse, perfect, perform, and share — and together, we’ll build a district and a borough where that is possible for all of us!
