I'm building a new company with @hnshah. Today we're launching our first product. It's called Typeahead. Autocomplete for everything you write on your Mac. You type, suggestions appear inline right at your cursor and you hit Tab to accept. It picks up how you actually write. It runs on a local model, so it works offline and your writing never leaves your device. One time purchase, free updates for life. If you write a lot on a Mac, check it out. Meet DiffusionGemma! An experimental open model that explores a fast approach to text generation, released under an Apache 2.0 license. Moving beyond sequential, token-by-token processes to generate entire blocks of text simultaneously. Here’s what’s new with DiffusionGemma: 👇

Typehead has been a great productivity hack and I have been using it for a few weeks now: its completely local I am not worried about my data egressing. Also I am a sucker for the stats of time saved using it. @hnshah and team have definitely put a lot of love into the product and keep shipping improvements. Give it a shot!
One week ago, we launched Typeahead. The product is already meaningfully better. We’ve shipped new features, Typeahead 2.0 is almost ready, and we’re already planning 3.0. 3.0 is going to be big. That pace is part of the point. @SamAsante and I started a new company together because we wanted to see how far we could push local AI software. Typeahead is the first thing we shipped. It is a local AI writing app for Mac. You type, suggestions appear inline, and it learns how you actually write. It works offline. You pay once. $79 and you own it. The product is intentionally simple. The thesis behind it is bigger. We think local models are going to create a new class of software. Fast, private and offline. By default. Personal without being creepy. Useful without turning everything into a subscription. Most AI products today assume the model lives in the cloud. That will not be the only path. The machines we already own are getting powerful enough. The models are getting small enough. And the experience can start to feel less like chatting with a remote service and more like using software that belongs on your computer. We have already built a few fully local experiments together. @TypeaheadAI felt right because the value is immediate. A few people have asked me how this fits with @CrazyEgg. Crazy Egg is still my main work. This is a focused company with Sam, built around a thesis we both believe in. I’ve learned that the people I work with shape the work more than almost anything else. Sam was already on my short list of people I wanted to build with. Typeahead is the first public proof of the thesis. Watch the video. Get it here: typeahead.ai

We just released Typeahead v1.8.0! Writing Styles is a new feature that enables you to customize your own style and switch between them in a couple of clicks. In addition, Typeahead is now a lot smarter. It ignores certain types of text such as links, emails and more. We made a few other tiny improvements to when and how completions show up too. And finally, Suggestion Timing lets you adjust exactly when completions show up.

We just shipped Typeahead Version 1.5.0: Typeahead is autocomplete for everyone, so now you can make suggestions look exactly the way you need them to. - Make suggestions easier to see. A new Display tab in Settings lets you turn up the opacity, switch on bolder text, or give the ghost text its own color. Perfect if the default is too subtle to read comfortably. - Colors that work for color blindness. Pick from a palette chosen to stay distinct for common types of color vision, or choose any custom color. A live preview shows how it looks on both light and dark fields, with a gentle heads-up when a color would be hard to see. - It respects your Mac's accessibility settings, too. Increase Contrast and Reduce Transparency are honored automatically.

great example of an actual privacy-first ai tool, excited for more things like this
I should also mention that this tool is safe for work. None of your data leaves your computer at all. There is no analytics or telemetry tracking, anonymous or otherwise. Live on Product Hunt now. Would love your support: producthunt.com/products/typ…

Every AI product makes a quiet decision about where the work happens. For Typeahead, that decision mattered more than usual. A writing tool sits between thought and record. It sees the sentence before it is ready to defend itself. A customer reply can carry names, history, tone, obligations, and context that belongs to the customer. Hiring notes often begin as a first reaction that deserves a second read. Investor updates have numbers still settling. Legal thoughts need careful language before they become advice. A Slack message can take three rewrites because one word changes the relationship. That is the private workshop where writing gets made. Messy. Tentative. Personal. Yours. If a Mac can run the model locally, the draft should not travel by habit. So Typeahead keeps the work on the machine. Suggestions are generated on your Mac. The app ships without telemetry, analytics, anonymous tracking, or account requirements. After activation, it works offline. That is the privacy model. It is also the product philosophy. Good software should ask for the minimum required to do the job well. Typeahead has a focused job. Help you finish the small sentences you write all day, across the apps where writing already happens. Ghost text appears in the field. Tab accepts the suggestion. Right arrow takes one word. Esc dismisses it. The sentence stays where it began. The writer stays in charge. That same philosophy shaped the pricing. $79 once. If the core value can live on the computer you already bought, renting it back to you every month felt like the wrong relationship. We wanted Typeahead to feel like a tool. It earns its place through daily use and disappears the rest of the time. Owned once. Private by architecture. Built for the messy, unfinished, very human work that happens before writing is ready to share. We’re live on Product Hunt today. If you write a lot on a Mac, I’d love for you to check it out. producthunt.com/products/typ…
