New preprint, so #tweeprint time: Humans and machines dynamically interact in neural interfaces. Can we analyze & predict these interactions? We solve this w/ an interdisciplinary approach led by @m_madduri as part of a close collab with @SamBurdenUW biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

UW Professor Chet Moritz was featured in @UWMedicine for his research on transcutaneous spinal stimulation. Through noninvasive electrical stimulation, people with spinal cord injuries can regain their abilities in function and hand dexterity. #uwece tinyurl.com/chet-moritz-spin…

I’m working on a new article—if you’re interested in discussing your relationship to alcohol’s pervasive presence in the academy, DM me. I want to hear about any strong feelings but esp interested in experiences of being & trying to be sober. @AcademicChatter #AcademicTwitter

Really powerful piece synthesizing a wonderful constellation of voices.
both my dean & my chair have written me about this piece, sharing words of support & care. I was advised by some against writing this, as I don't have tenure, but I'm glad I was brave & I'm so grateful & lucky to have the support of my institution. chronicle.com/article/academ…

Today I was honored with 34 other amazing women in #Robotics @iros2022 in Kyoto. Even more inspiring are the young women and URM researchers presenting their work in person and remotely at this amazing venue. The future is bright.@ieeeras

This is awful. I’m certain former colleagues have said the same about working with me despite actively trying to prevent me from succeeding. If y’all see my name in a DEI statement, check with me to see if the efforts are legitimate or if I was just their Hispanic lab mate.
This morning I reflected on a time I came across a colleague’s personal statement with 2 paragraphs about how working with me was a contribution to DEI. My feelings are still hurt when I think about it, and it always makes me question who else sees me as a token.

Informational interviews are so, so, so useful. If you know ANYONE, or know anyone who knows anyone, who's doing a job you think sounds interesting -- or that uses some of your skills but you've never heard of! -- reach out and ask if they will talk to you about their job.

Must-read for my white cis-het male friends. If you don't have time for 30 pages, skip to the "Summary of Findings" on pgs 33 & 34 -- see how many points you recognize in your own thinking or that of your mentors / colleagues: arxiv.org/abs/2210.03522

I regularly observe all of these points in action (not exclusive to the group called out in the title, but especially prevalent there) and, if I'm being honest in my self-reflection, I perpetuate at least a third of them regularly through my actions & inaction
Oof -- a must-read for academics and parents. (Switch to private browsing window to avoid paywall.)
