South Africa proving a great case study for ‘if you can’t play out from the back, don’t’.

Seems like this is about as good as it could have been for Stokes/Atkinson. But for a captain to agree a curfew and then break it in the first instance is pretty unsustainable, if we want to take ourselves seriously.
Full story on Stokes-Saracens incident * Rugby player understood to have thrown a punch at Gus Atkinson but connected with ECB security guard supervising the players * ECB sources are adamant the cricketers were “not the aggressors” at Chelsea nightclub telegraph.co.uk/cricket/2026…

Avid cricket fan of many years but by a strange combination of circumstances have never yet got round to attending a test match. Today seems a good day to rectify that. And up to 6/18 English grounds attended.

Fantastic day and experience but England will be lucky not to be fined/docked WTC points for that pitch. Mickey Mouse doesn’t even cover it - not sure the Bethell dismissal even moved off the ground

As a Somerset fan it would have felt a hollow victory winning that way tbf. Situation with the floodlights was a joke and disrupted Glamorgan’s rhythm. With the reduced format we’re in danger of missing out on the knockouts for the first time in years.

Not often i say this but questionable captaincy from Gregory too. If I were him I’d have backed myself (or Overton) to defend 16 off the last over, ahead of Ball.

The Harding replacement or the Galloway one, depending how you look at it. Essentially signed for cover at LCB and LB. Pretty happy - but imagine not been signed to start most weeks. #pafc
We are delighted to announce the signing of defender Alex Hartridge on a two-year deal, following his departure from Burton Albion 👊

Also another point which has seemed to have been overlooked. Foulston park. This fantastic facility for our women’s team. They don’t mind spending millions on that. But we can’t muster a steady level of 💴 to keep a side which in any other season would have made the 2nd tier.

I agreed with Berne here at the time he said it. It was one area where I stood up for the club despite failures generally. I think such a big change of policy in just six months should be communicated clearly to supporters.

The other thing is it means the money we’ve spent on the women’s team so far has essentially become wasted money because it isn’t in service of a long term investment. Once again caught between two strategies without committing to either and pissed off all sides in the end.

By the way, all the criticism about the club comms on this matter has taken away focus from any scrutiny of the decision itself. Which I don’t think is quite right. #pafc

…. Of investment in a growing and lucrative future market that is womens football. Is that still the case, are our finances so bad we can’t afford a small short term loss? If things have changed, why have they changed? If we were wrong in the first place, why were we wrong?

The entire thing smacks of veering like a trolley from one strategy to the next without really knowing what we are doing, which sadly can be said of so much that’s gone wrong with the club since 2024 (and I’d argue the tail end of 2023 even)

Afraid to say this whole situation has become a complete embarrassment to our club. The club statement makes them look worse not better. The duty to inform players should have been taken out of Marie’s hands when she left. To shift blame onto her is totally tone deaf. #pafc

Nothing in that statement changes the fact that at minimum, many/most of the impacted players found out by email. And then to essentially dig out a highly regarded departing coach for not doing our dirty work does us untold reputation damage.

The entire situation is nothing short of a debacle and if it isn’t fixed soon it’s bordering ‘heads must roll’ territory. Which isn’t something I say lightly.

You should quite simply never lose your job with an email that begins ‘Hi all’. That’s before we get to the rest of it.
