I am thrilled to share the culmination of my work with @UGA_DeLTA, a resource to help departments rethink their approach to teaching evaluation, particularly for the purposes of annual evaluation, & promotion/tenure decisions.
Do let us know what you think of the GATEs! π
DeLTA is excited to share a research-based resource we created to support STEM departments in advancing teaching evaluation. Check out the GATEs: lifescied.org/doi/10.1187/cbβ¦@Sandhya221B

The concept of "networking" terrified me because starting conversations with strangers is difficult - even more so when they are my academic heroes. But the lovely folks of @SABERcommunity have transformed the fear of networking into an excitement for friend-making! π #SABER2022
Thank you @LuisLeyvaEdu for a great start to #SABER2022!ππΎ
The student narratives shared showed that we need to disrupt hegemonic narratives in "gatekeeper" intro STEM courses by changing how we frame content & ability, and inviting students to co-construct norms in these spaces.
Heading to #SABER2022 and ecstatic about it!π₯°
Can't wait to see the wonderful folks of @SABERcommunity and talk about all of the research and teaching that we love and do every day! π

Thanks to @tessa_andrews2, @erindolan1, @PaulaLemons10, & @brickman19 for making this work possible! It was a privilege to work with you!ππ½
And thanks to Dr. Jessica Gehrtz for your early input and analysis & Hannah Ericson for your later analysis, that brought it all together.ππΎ
I don't think folks say this enough:
I LOVE PUBLIC TRANSIT.
The journey is worth the time it takes. The time is worth the journey it makes.
#PublicTransportation
May we not just grieve, but give:
May we not just ache, but act;
May our signed right to bear arms
Never blind our sight from shared harm;
May we choose our children over chaos.
May another innocent never be lost.

Had so much fun with the folks of #FLAMEnet2022! We worked, laughed, learned, worked, ate, listened, and worked some more! Can't wait to see how these changemakers revolutionize their institutions over the next few months and years ππ½πͺπ½
Thanks for all your hard work! ππΎ
We kept so busy at #FLAMEnet2022 & kept our attendees so engaged that we've had no time to share what we've been doing! Over the next few days, we'll share snippets of what our attendees accomplished here.
In the meantime, thanks to all who participated online and in-person! π§‘
I love learning from @DrTRMorton because of the thorough and thoughtful work he presents, because he's an awesome speaker, because he inspires me to be a justice-oriented science educator & because he reminds me that transformative change is a result of DAILY effort. Thank you ππΎ
@DrTRMorton advocates for thinking about the SYSTEM that has perpetuated the division and oppression of people (an ecological approach), rather than asking why students with particular identities can't succeed in our STEM courses (a deficit approach). Let's change STEM culture!
Really enjoyed @RCSA1's #CottrellScholars and @FailureMindset's workshop with Dr. Singh. To the point where I had to save the great suggestions in the chat!
Thanks for encouraging us to coach students in defensive & offensive skillsets, and learning through productive struggle!
Dr. Chandralekha Singh asks us to think about how to ensure students feel like they belong in STEM: "what do you as an instructor do to empower your students to embrace their struggle and use them as a learning opportunity in a low anxiety learning environment?"

Spent time with the parents today, and realised I am extraordinarily privileged to do so.
Getting to know my parents as people, realising how bravely they navigated their 20s and 30s as immigrants & parents, I am awed by what incredible people they are.
Parents, I salute you.ππΎ
