Have you seen Disclosure Day? I was pretty disappointed. There was a good 20 minutes toward the end I enjoyed but I left a bit underwhelmed. No spoilers! What did you think? #disclosureday

HAUNTED MAGAZINE ISSUE 50: UPDATE A quick update for everyone who has ordered a copy of Haunted Magazine Issue 50, Part One directly from us. We are really sorry, but there has been an unexpected delay in delivering our magazine stock to our UK distributor. The magazines have been with DHL UK since 29th May and, for reasons known only to themselves and the delivery goblins, they currently appear to be stuck in a DHL facility rather than where they need to be. To be clear, Haunted Magazine Issue 50, Part One has arrived in selected shops across the UK, and stock has also reached our distributors in the USA and Australia. The issue is very much out there in the wild, rattling shelves and frightening respectable retail displays. The problem is specifically with the delivery of the stock we need so that we can post copies to those who have ordered directly from us. As you can imagine, we are frustrated, angry, hurt and upset. Not just because it is inconvenient for readers, ourselves and everyone connected to Haunted Magazine, but because small businesses and independent publishers already have to fight hard to make things happen. Every print run, every delivery, every order and every reader matters. There is no big machine behind us quietly absorbing the knock. It is us, our time, our money, our energy and our hearts in every issue. So yes, this one hurts. Whilst we are currently doing that very British thing of remaining polite while internally screaming into a haunted cushion, please know that we are constantly chasing this, pushing for answers, and doing everything we can to get it sorted as quickly as possible. As soon as the magazines reach our distributor, they can get orders packed and posted out to everyone who has been waiting so patiently. Fingers crossed, all being well, everyone who has ordered Issue 50, Part One directly from us, should receive their copy next week. In the meantime, if anyone who has ordered would like a digital copy to read while they wait, please drop us a message, and we will whizz it across to you. Thank you sincerely for your patience, support, and understanding. We are genuinely sorry for the delay. This is not a message that we wanted to post, but we are on it, chasing it, and rattling every possible chain. Paul & Andy [@hauntedmagazine & @thehauntedguy] Haunted Magazine, #teamHaunted Please feel free to comment.

In 1959, Swiss psychotherapist Carl Jung wroteย Flying Saucers: A Modern Myth of Things Seen in the Skies. Jung used the book to explore links between the Cold War and fear of nuclear annihilation with an increased frequency of UFO sightings and tales of human encounters with extraterrestrials. Jung laid his idea out: โ€œIn the threatening situation of the world today, when people are beginning to see that everything is at stake, the projection-creating fantasy soars beyond the realm of earthly organizations and powers into the heavens, into interstellar space, where the rulers of human fate, the gods, once had their abode in the planetsโ€ฆ Even people who would never have thought that a religious problem could be a serious matter that concerned them personally are beginning to ask themselves fundamental questions. Under these circumstances, it would not be at all surprising if those sections of the community who ask themselves nothing were visited by โ€˜visionsโ€™, by a widespread myth seriously believed in by some and rejected as absurd by others.โ€ Less interested in alien life and interstellar travel than their psychic aspect, Jung looked at the phenomena of increased UFO sightings in a period when humanity was threatened with extinction. To Jung, UFOs were โ€œa modern mythโ€. He added: The primary question โ€“ and apparently, this is the most important point โ€“ is this: are they real or are they mere fantasy products? This question is by no means settled yet. If they are real, exactly what are they? If they are fantasy, why should such a rumour exist? Jung linked scepticism in UFO sightings to the popularity of science fiction: Since the things reported of UFOs not only sound incredible but seem to fly in the face of all our basic assumptions about the physical world, it is very natural that oneโ€™s first reaction should be the negative one of outright rejection. Surely, we say, itโ€™s nothing but illusions, fantasies, and lies. People who report such stuffโ€”chiefly airline pilots and ground staff โ€“ cannot be quite right in the head! What is worse, most of these stories come from America, the land of superlatives and of science fiction. Although Jung concedes: Though UFOs were first publicized only towards the end of the Second World War, the phenomenon itself was known long before. It was observed in the first half of this century and was described in earlier centuries and perhaps even in antiquity. In 214 BC, ancient historian Livy reported phantom ships in the skies of Rome. Keen to get Jungโ€™s views to his readers, @newrepublic editor Gilbert A. Harrison invited a contribution from the man Sigmund Freud once called his โ€œadopted eldest son, his crown prince and successorโ€. Jungโ€™s reply is worth reading: Dear Mr Harrison, The problem of the Ufos is, as you rightly say, a very fascinating one, but it is as puzzling as it is fascinating; since, in spite of all observations I know of, there is no certainty about their very nature. On the other side, there is overwhelming material pointing to their legendary or mythological aspect. As a matter of fact, the psychological aspect is so impressive that one almost must regret that the Ufos seem to be real after all. I have followed up on the literature as much as possible, and it looks to me as if something were seen and even confirmed by radar, but nobody knows exactly what is seen. In consideration of the psychological aspect of the phenomenon, I have written a booklet about it, which is soon to appear. It is also in the process of being translated into English. Unfortunately, being occupied with other tasks, I am unable to meet your proposition. Being rather old, I have to economize my energies. Very sincerely yours, C.G.Jung Are aliens out there? Do you favour the response โ€˜whyโ€™ or โ€˜why notโ€™? And can sightings be attributed, as Jung notes, to the fear of the unknown and, with it, the human preoccupation with aliens on our innate search for meaning in places where none exists? In 2010 psychologist Stephen Diamond describedย the mental phenomenon of seeing and dreaming of UFOs: โ€ฆit is precisely the profoundly mysterious and mythic nature of UFOs that, like dreams, make them so psychologically powerful. As with all natural or metaphysical phenomena, once science dissects, analyzes and mechanistically explains such mysteries, their numinous, spiritual, potentially healing power is deadened or lost. I came out of video retirement and joined @anneandrenata to talk about paranormal ethics and what we can do as a community to move forward. It can't be solved in an hour but we had some great discussions. youtube.com/watch?v=hf77rXrnโ€ฆ
