Just downloaded @WhovaSupport App for this week’s @REFCAtreehouse Conference created by lived-experience #fostercare leaders! Surprised to see so many #childwelfare scholars sitting this one out, but can’t wait to network with those who are there 💙 treehousefoundation.net/refc…

I don’t think anyone said it was magic. But it sure sounds like a bad initiative when it’s presented as if we expect it to fix all of foster care’s problems. [Narrator: Advocates already know that it won’t. It’s just one intervention/idea]
College is not magic. Universities cannot make up for 13 years of bad schools or parents who don’t even bother sending their kids to school on a regular basis. deseret.com/2023/9/25/238830… @AEI @IWF

I’m hesitant to even link to something so disingenuous. But I’m happy to engage in a conversation about why I’m so passionate about college access work.

Looks like @PhilaParking just ticketed the whole 2300 block of Christian for street cleaning even tho it’s not a marked/signed block! Yikes.

I find similar reporting happening with all types of #ChildWelfare matters. What you read in the public media is often a gross misrepresentation of what CPS, foster care, or system involvement actually is.
This article is a great example on how the @nytimes coverage of Indigenous issues doesn’t meet the basic standards of journalism. This article grossly misrepresents what happened in the underlying custody cases and the people behind the lawsuit.

A @PennMedicine comedy: Make [my 4th] call about an incorrect bill. Volunteer to take customer survey. Wonderful rep can’t fix the fact that my PCP visit is being billed as a specialist visit. Receive survey callback…that promptly crashes. Sneaky way to avoid the feedback!

My small soap box of today: "I have two children of my own" shows once again how adoption becomes a misunderstood feel-good talking point. If you adopt a child, they are your own now too. (But since you wouldn't actually feel that way, I guess I'm glad you "weren't able to.")
Asking people with a “choose adoption” sign if they chose to adopt.
Your #adoption and #fostercare reactions aren't the hot takes you think they are #RoeVWade

May is actually #NationalFosterCareMonth and I'm put off by the diversion of awareness-raising for foster care issues in general to praise for foster parents. childwelfare.gov/fostercarem…

May is Foster Parent Appreciation Month, a time to honor a celebrate thousands of foster families across the state providing temporary safe care for children, as well as encourage Illinoisians to become foster families. bit.ly/3ycvt9U
Two tweets from me in one day! But this is too exciting not to share. I love working on projects that can help improve foster care services.
Congrats to @johannagreeson and the full research team behind this important study, just published in the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry today! Read the full paper on the impact of #COVID19 on youth in #fostercare here: psycnet.apa.org/fulltext/202…

"In the agreement, @CSSPhiladelphia agreed to post a warning that it doesn't work with same-sex couples." Only for foster parents, right? It will still have to work towards reunification with LGBTQ people and work the case plans for LGBTQ kids, RIGHT? inquirer.com/news/foster-car…
