My daughter went on a walk this morning and composed a poem about a bird she saw, and you’re blackpilling??

Piano recital last night for the kids. Really incredible group, lots of Chopin played well by young teenagers. It wasn’t too long ago that the recitals were something close to torture, especially with wrangling our younger kids. But they do so well now! There’s hope!

In other recital news, my 15yo played an eight-hand piece with 3 other teens from the studio, and we had a lot of fun teasing her about the boy (tall! Polite! Just her age and good at the piano!)

Somehow I've gotten into a schedule where I have to do my grocery shopping on Monday and I hate it. The week just started. I'm not ready. I can't be planning meals yet. I'm a SAHM getting the Sunday Scaries about the grocery store.

Last night my 3 girls sat cross-legged in the living room in confessional attitudes. When the giggling got too loud and it was TOO far past their bed-time, I popped my head in to shoo them into their rooms. "PLEASE tell us you weren't listening in!!!" they all begged...

I wasn't, but dang it if I haven't been wondering all day what they were talking about. (PROBABLY boys at school, but I wish I knew for sure!) I'm glad they're (mostly) good sisters to each other. I only have one sister and we weren't close, so I'm on new ground here with them.

My oldest (15) just cut nine inches off her hair for the summer, going from waist to shoulder-blade length. She has been APPALLED that ~nobody has noticed. Hopefully the other teen girls at church will on Sunday, or else she'll truly be in despair!

This morning's bike ride: a leisurely trip around Schenectady. The rose garden is aggressively pretty already, even though pretty much the only things blooming are these climbing roses.

Beth was practicing violin with the window open, listening to her two younger siblings hollering at each other in their play, feeling the early summer breeze waft in. She managed about 10 minutes before begging permission to practice later.

I gave in, and seconds later she was out the door. I doubt the "practice later" will actually happen. But she's 13, and summer is short. There won't be many more evenings with all the kids laying out the gymnastics mat in the front yard and practicing cartwheels with each other.

Today while I attempted to tame my 9yo son in church by letting him drape himself over my lap while I scratched his back, I looked across the aisle to see another mom in the exact same position. The children, they require back scratches to keep from going crazy.

My 9yo has been mainlining all the Star Wars movies recently, and for some reason it’s infecting my twitter feed. I am dismayed that apparently Disney is selling my viewing data to twitter?? I can’t think of how else this would have happened.

Like, please get me onto classic musicals, BBC and quality k-drama twitter, please and thank you. Don’t provide content for my 9yo son instead of ME.

You can plan to do a long bike ride in 50 degree weather with drizzling rain. You can go on it. But what you CANNOT do is plan two 10 mile loops, because after the first one you will be cold and wet AND back at your car and perfectly able to stop this madness.

I chaperoned a 3rd grade field trip that involved a 40 minute bus ride each way and now I need to lie down in a quiet room for 3-4 days. God bless 3rd grade teachers.

Well, I haven't solved the problem of updating my KIDS bikes for this year, but I just went on a 17-mile bike ride myself around my neighborhood and it was so amazing. Doing workouts on the zwift all winter was torture but it WORKED and hills are so much easier now.

I hate the dilemma of kids' bikes. For ~$150 you can get a janky bike from walmart that'll probably last you 2 seasons before going in a landfill. For ~$30 and an hour of your time you can go on fb marketplace and get a janky bike that should've gone into a landfill 2 yrs ago.

You COULD get a high quality bike and hand down through your kids, but by the time you're sufficiently advanced in your career/family finances to be willing to splurge, they're practically all on adult bikes anyway.
