HfL Tenants got mentioned in
@HouseofCommons! It’s official, we’re on the pages of
@UKParliament history!
So, why was our case brought up in Parliament?
Here’s a bit of context 👇
🚨 Section 21 ‘no fault’ evictions remain one of the leading drivers of homelessness.
🚫
@UKLabour claims to recognise that and has long proclaimed outlawing ‘no fault’ evictions to be essential.
⚖️ The Renters’ Rights Bill is currently being discussed in Parliament, which, if passed, will finally secure the abolition of Section 21 evictions.
⏳ The bill is expected to come into effect in summer 2025, which has led to many landlords scrambling to evict tenants via Section 21 before it gets scrapped.
Though, here’s the shocking part:
Labour Lambeth Council is currently attempting to evict hundreds of its own tenants via ‘no fault’ evictions, i.e., the very mechanism the Labour Party claims to oppose.
Now, will
@LambethLabour double down on its hypocrisy, or will it finally admit it’s made a mistake? Stay tuned to find out!
It’s also rather ironic to have a question about Section 21 come from
@FloEshalomi given she’s a Labour MP with affected HfL Tenants living in her constituency, yet she hasn’t addressed our situation once.
What’s that about, Flo? Care to finally acknowledge our existence? Stay tuned to find that out too!
