Kelp forests are among the most diverse habitats on Earth. But climate change, poor water quality and overfishing have damaged up to 60% of them in the last 50 years. We look at what’s at stake and how to protect the ocean’s kelp 👉 bit.ly/4vHzuh8

Big Tech bro-ligarchs like Sam Altman stand to profit hugely from unregulated growth of the AI industry, so it’s no surprise that they’re investing heavily in swaying federal policy decisions 😡 This is one of many reasons why we need a nationwide halt on ALL new data centers!

This past week more incredible details were uncovered about Ohio's massive tax break to the world's richest tech corps AND the GOP's refusal to do anything about it. In this ICYMI, we discuss when Amazon, Google & Meta signed their giant tax breaks and how long they will last.

Guess it's not enough to frack Ohio state parks and public land for data centers. The feds want to frack Wayne National Forest, too-- Ohio's only national forest. Tell them NO! Comments due June 17: workshop June 16. RSVP: bit.ly/wnf-zoom @ALTNPS @SherrodBrown

The world-- and Ohio--must phase out fossil fuels. Ohio is already behind. 92.5% of all energy added to the global grid in 2024 was renewable. It's cheaper than coal, oil & gas, reliable and planet-friendly. Be climate heroes, not villains. @matthuffman1 @OhioSenateGOP

In the North Atlantic Ocean, south of Greenland and Iceland, a large patch of water is doing something very strange. While the rest of the ocean heats up, it's been getting colder. A new study says it has the answer to this mystery — and it's an ominous sign the world is hurtling toward one of the most alarming climate tipping points. cnn.it/4xpS2nQ

The environmental toll of the artificial intelligence boom continues to mount as tech companies use ever more power to run their data centers and use enormous amounts of water for cooling. A new investigation by U.N. scientists warns that AI's water use in 2030 will match the needs of 1.3 billion people, while its power use will be triple that of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nigeria combined — countries with a total population of 650 million. "Most people understand AI as a digital technology, as a virtual thing, as something that is in the clouds," says Iranian environmental scientist Kaveh Madani, director of the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health. "What we tried to do in this report was to remind people that there's some physics to all of this." democracynow.org/2026/6/12/a…

Angry about lawmakers fracking under our state parks and public lands for gas likely to run polluting, hyperscale data centers? Channel your anger into action. Tell @GovMikeDeWine to veto SB 219-- it allows fracking INSIDE state parks. bit.ly/4uvnkqE @OhioEnviro

Interesting that @jrockstrom wrote this for @ChinaDaily, not @WSJ or @wapo or @nytimes? What does this say about the global scientific community's confidence in U.S. to help mitigate the worse effects of climate change? Don't let us fall further. @SherrodBrown @SenWhitehouse
At a time of growing geopolitical fragmentation, it is increasingly difficult to imagine the UN forging the same broad consensus around a new global development framework that it did with the SDGs, which end in 2030. I'm thinking about what comes next. chinadaily.com.cn/a/202606/1…

Ohio governments, too, are selling themselves off to data center developers. Why trust @ohiogop majority to do the right thing for Ohioans? @OHDems @matthuffman1 @KentKSmith
30 years ago, the Bland family sold 87 acres of farmland to the Texas Parks and Recreation Foundation for $10 with one stipulation in the deed: the land must be turned into a public park in Williamson County. Last year, the city of Taylor, Texas, sold that land to the data center developer Blueprint for $10 million. The Bland family's dream of creating a community hub will be erased for a 135,000-square-foot data center complex. From Blueprint's $1 billion data center project, Taylor is projected to generate $30 million in tax revenue over the next decade. Despite public protests, Taylor, Texas, said on its website that there was no way to deny construction of the data centers. 404media.co/a-farmer-donated…

What started as a mission has now led to over 50 million pounds of trash removed, and we’re not stopping here. This is something you can be part of, every 4ocean bracelet removes one pound of trash from the ocean, rivers, and shorelines. This is bigger than a bracelet, it’s a movement you can wear. bit.ly/4xeXvxO
