The International Campaign for Tibet offers our deepest condolences to the family of Congressman Barney Frank who passed away on May 19. Congressman Frank was a steadfast supporter of the Tibetan people while representing the Boston area for 32 years in the U.S. House of Representatives. His historic contribution was the introduction of a provision in the Immigration Act of 1990 that provided 1,000 U.S. immigrant visas for Tibetan refugees in the Indian subcontinent. Today, the Tibetan American community has developed because of that legislation; it is making its mark in American society, contributing to its development and championing the rights of Tibetans in Tibet. The global Tibet movement is eternally grateful for Congressman Frank's compassionate leadership. Congressman Frank is survived by his husband Jim Ready, sisters Doris Breay and Ann Lewis and brother David Frank.
