My next highlighted game of Day 1 of the UAA Session II was a highly anticipated heavyweight showdown between @StarsNash_MBB 17U and Team Thrill, and this one delivered every ounce of drama the packed crowd could’ve hoped for. The gym was buzzing long before tipoff. Coaches lined up at both ends of the court and the upstairs area, eyes locked in on two nationally respected squads ready to trade blows. From the opening possession, the intensity was through the roof. Every bucket felt earned. Every stop mattered. Every possession carried pressure. Team Thrill came out firing early with ridiculously tough shot making, knocking down heavily contested looks and setting the tone with confidence to grab a 15-11 lead after the first quarter. But even with the Stars trailing, you could see they weren’t rattled. They kept battling, kept competing, and kept searching for momentum. In the second quarter, Team Thrill’s crisp ball movement and timely shooting started opening things up as they pushed the lead to 34-23 at halftime. Coming out of the half, Team Thrill stretched the lead to double digits and looked ready to slam the door shut. But that’s when the Stars flipped the energy of the game. Their defense became absolutely suffocating. Passing lanes disappeared. Ball pressure picked up. Hustle plays started stacking up. Possession after possession, they clawed their way back into it and cut the deficit to 43-36 heading into the fourth. The final quarter felt like a prize fight. Every stop led to a huge shot. Every possession had the crowd holding its breath. The Stars kept punching back until finally #12 @AnthonyWig61483 delivered a clutch And 1 that gave the Stars their first lead of the night and sent the bench and the fans into chaos. But Team Thrill answered immediately as #12 @SaxtonSmiley buried a massive triple to put Team Thrill back up by two. Then came another huge moment. With the game slipping away, “The Mail-Man” @Nolan_Coffman4 attacked the rim and finished through traffic with a crafty, strong bucket in the closing seconds, and then was fouled and made two huge free throws to tie the game at 55-55 and force overtime. In OT, the Stars carried that momentum early and looked poised to complete the comeback. They grabbed the lead and kept applying pressure, but Team Thrill refused to fold. The game turned one final time after a 10-second violation gave Team Thrill life. Down one, they came up with a huge steal that flipped the lead, then another defensive play that pushed it to three after free throws. The Stars had one last opportunity to force double overtime, but the final shot wouldn’t fall as Team Thrill escaped with an absolute war of a 62-59 overtime victory. Team Thrill used a balanced attack led by #3 D. Davis with 15 points, but #12 @SaxtonSmiley was the tone shifter in the biggest moments. His ice-in-veins performance finished with 12 points, 4 rebounds, and a massive late steal that completely changed the game's outcome. The Stars were led by “The Mail-Man” @Nolan_Coffman4, who had a game-high 16 points while adding 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal in a gritty, all-around performance. @AnthonyWig61483 added 14 points and delivered several clutch moments in the heartbreaking overtime loss.
