First off, no one thinks he should be able to play. Not a single fan of the game will be happy about this. He clearly violated the most basic rule hundreds of times.
Second, how can Texas Tech fight for a person’s character that they just met? He just joined the team!

And the first thing they learn about their new teammate is he is a degenerate gambler who lied and bet on his own team multiple times. And you want to go to bat for him?!? It couldn’t more obviously be about the money. What happened to having values and a moral stance?

Instead of fighting the courts to have him play, Tech should cut him and fight the courts to get their money back and be able to add a new qb. Why would you want this guy on your team?
