Miracle of life - #vernalpool style! Some students in Living Environment got to see a water flea giving live birth today in lab class. So much fun exploring the ecology of these unique ecosystems! A copepod also tried to photobomb the show! #barkercsd

Living Environment students created models of the oldest known, self-sustaining ecosystem in a bottle, showing how matter is cycled during photosynthesis and cellular respiration and then created a video explaining it. Loved what they came up with! #barkercsd

Pepé Le Pew visited the bait pile recently, bringing our total wildlife species served to 5! Red Fox, Coyote, Possum, Skunk, and Red-tailed Hawk (...and domestic dog!) have all been documented feasting on the bounty. #barkercsd

Students were the teachers today as they presented their cell organelle projects with their remote partners via Zoom. We all enjoyed some great cell artwork as well, while learning about the functions and interactions of cell organelles! #barkercsd

Busy bees! Students worked in groups to design and conduct an investigation to look at factors affecting plant growth. Best part was watching the in-person kids showing their remote partners the plants and explaining what they were seeing. #barkercsd

Students worked together to collect soil samples from our food plot project yesterday. The samples will be sent out to a lab to test pH and nutrient levels to determine what fertilizers and other amendments we may need prior to planting. #barkercsd

Distance learning has given us some new opportunities. Today was “Bring your pet to school day” for Living Environment students after the lesson was done! We had toads, lizards, ferrets, cats, hamsters, rabbits, dogs, and teddy bears represented! #barkercsd
