Raise a quaich to #StAndrewsDay! A quaich is a shallow, two-handled drinking vessel. This quaich in our collection descended from Thomas McKean, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and member of the St. Andrew's Society of Philadelphia. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿: bit.ly/4iIAj3h

The laying a country desolate with fire and sword, declaring war against the natural rights of all mankind, and extirpating the defenders thereof from the face of the earth, is the concern of every man to whom nature hath given the power of feeling.” Thomas Paine, Common Sense

Huzzah to the weekend! 🍻 We stopped by to raise a glass to our new neighbors, A Man Full of Trouble tavern. With a 25-seat bar and a museum upstairs, have a pint or two at Philadelphia’s oldest surviving Revolutionary-era tavern, located just around the corner from the Museum!

What is fall without cider? 🍎 As the Seven Years’ War ended, Parliament taxed both the American colonists and the English people in a move to pay down the country’s debt. The Cider Bill of 1763 laid out one of these taxes but was almost immediately met with protests in Britain.

What if most Americans aren't bitterly divided? Columnist Jonah Goldberg cites our work in today's LA Times. "In 2018, the group More in Common published a huge report on the “hidden tribes” of American politics. “Devoted Conservatives” made up 6% of those polled and “Progressive Activists” 8%. These tribes dominate the media, political parties and higher education and dictate the competing narratives of red vs. blue, particularly on cable news and social media. Meanwhile the overwhelming majority of Americans were part of groups that were in, or adjacent to, the “exhausted majority.”" latimes.com/opinion/story/20…
