DECORATIONS IN DOZENS OF STORES ACROSS THE COUNTRY
PHILADELPHIA, PA - In stores across the country, Starbucks has refused to let workers decorate for Pride and is also taking down Pride flags. This is contrary to previous years when workers were allowed, and even encouraged, to put up pride decorations without incident.
Despite Starbucks claiming that there has been no policy change, workers across the country are speaking out and proving otherwise. This is a clear continuation of Starbucks' anti-union campaign to intimidate workers and make them feel unwelcome in their own workplace. The Starbucks Workers United movement is largely led by LGBTQ partners (employees), and this is Starbucks' latest attempt to silence
ALT Workers have documented dozens instances of this happening across the country. For reference:
• Across social media, workers have been speaking out and sharing their own experiences. On TikTok, workers shared a viral video where managers actively took down pride decorations. On Twitter, the State Street Starbucks in Madison, WI store documented Starbucks making them take down their pride decorations.
• This video features a worker from Atlanta, GA speaking out about her experience not being allowed to put up pride decorations.
• In Columbus, OH, workers caught on camera a customer returning a Starbucks drink after seeing the district manager take down pride flags.
• Here, a Starbucks manager notes that this was a regional decision made to "create consistency from store to store."
• In these text messages, a manager in the Mid-Atlantic region tells workers not to buy pride decorations because the leadership team is "moving onward uniformity in store to create consistent experience in st
