Promoting electric cooking is good for people, Mountain Gorillas and 100s of other species! 🦍🍲 This project is arguably the most important one I've worked on & clearly the most exciting fun! Academic folks, stay tuned for the RCT working paper coming later this year
This #WorldRainforestDay, learn how the Park’s e-cooker project – supported by @EU_Commission, @FundInnovDev, @AFD_France, @PEDL_CEPR and @USAID, as well as our academic partners such as @CEEMMontpellier and the University of Antwerp – is helping to protect ecosystems in Virunga.

Why is a @Harvard African language program manager consistently spewing M23/Rwandan propaganda in a terrible conflict? Bad for @AfricaHarvard's reputation!
In a total rebuttal of the false narrative fabricated by humanitarian organizations & their mouthpiece in the #UNSC, which contends that the Goma takeover by M23 has led to an IDP crisis, the Congolese who had fled into Rwanda 48h ago, are now safely returning home.

Notre Message⤵️

Militias in eastern Congo have been recruiting child soldiers on an unprecendented scale since the outbreak of the M23 conflict. I interviewed 14 children who recently escaped from militias for the @guardian . theguardian.com/global-devel…

Tens of thousands of turkeys being suffocated and terminated by foam 👺 A #birdflu infection is a death sentence for all incarcerated animals here Animals living this close together are the breeding grounds for pandemics It is unnecessary so we should stop these death camps forever #EndAnimalExploitation #GoPlantbased #LiveVegan save lives and life on our planet 🙏

.. this encouraging economic effect doesn't seem to be driven by a better protection of seacapes. We do see signs of structural transformation of labor markets. This project was a team work with the great @seamap @juliaa_girard @SolerToyo @ADalongeville other not here

A special thanks to Conservation Letters editor @gscumming who helped us improve our manuscript ; and to a team led by J. Tobey and E. Torell who shared with us data and survey materials that were 20 years old. This paper is all about open science. Shout out to @idoimpact

@BurgoaLaurent @JeanPierreGrand @senateurcabanel @bilhacsenat @j_aficionados @corentincarpent

Replying to @ESSAForets
I don't think that relocating conferences or workshops to countries with less strict immigration policy is the solution. We, scholars from the Global South aspire to travel freely. These visa refusals have far-reaching consequences, and are plainly disgraceful and unjust! 3/3

It is shocking to see that 1300 children probably died following the collapse of bats populations in North America. More shocking, tens of million of bats also died in this process (several 1000 times more bats than human beings). Tens of millions sentient beings.
Biodiversiy is declining, yet we have limited knowledge about how that affects human well-being. My work linking bats, insecticide use, and human infant health is out today in Science (science.org/doi/10.1126/scie…), and tells a complex story about how those are connected.

Are higher agricultural yields the solution to protect tropical forests? It was not the case over the last 20 years when looking at the entire tropics. You can check our new WP with @RSoubeyran @MatCoutt Please share your comments with us hal.inrae.fr/hal-04676632

You will find in the working paper some theory and econometrics, a discussion of mechanisms (market potential) and possible policies (protected areas) to reconcile food production and env. protection.

My story for the @guardian on Congo's Upemba national park, with 📷 by Hugh Kinsella. Full of endemic plants, and with Congo's last zebra herd, Upemba is slowly recovering after being decimated by conflict. But militias and poachers remain a threat. theguardian.com/environment/…
