Very excited to share our new working paper with @andrewjkoh 📄
When should policymakers use taxes/subsidies (prices) vs. quotas (quantities) to correct externalities in economies with stochastic spillovers? We revisit an old question posed by Weitzman (1974), but in general equilibrium with many linked markets.
It turns out: the answer depends on the correlation structure of shocks.

I’m on the #EconJobMarket and my tremendous co-author @ZiYangKang has shared an excellent summary of my #JMP about subsidies and redistribution and our companion paper both written over a (busy!) summer. Check out the thread (and the far-too-generous things he says about me) here
1/ My co-author @MitchLWatt is on the #EconJobMarket this year.
Mitch is an applied theorist interested in market design, IO, and public policy.
I happen to know his #JMP and its companion paper very well. 😇

I am on the Job Market!
In my JMP, I study optimal capital controls considering previously overlooked effects on investment and productivity using a sufficient statistic approach
Estimating productivity losses using microdata, I find that capital flows should be incentivized

I’m excited to be on the job market this year! My job market paper studies the trade-offs of technologies that transform the composition of labor while allowing firms to expand their markets. I focus on a technology growing worldwide: online-delivery platforms.
Pascuel (@mpplotkin) studies how alternative work arrangements impact inequality. His job market paper links employer-employee data with delivery platforms to examine how platform adoption affects restaurants, their employees, and gig workers. Profile: pascuel.github.io/

It is the season for PhD applications! Jpal compiled many resources that are super useful for anyone outside of top US universities.
First question: Is a PhD right for me?
