This Memorial Day, as with every Memorial Day, we remember those who died in service to our country. But now, more than ever, we must be increasingly circumspect regarding the causes of and results of those conflicts in which they lost their lives.
"War is politics by other means." -Carl von Clausewitz
Wars are fought for resources, land & power. Only in the modern era have people been convinced via mass media to fight for intangible ideas such as 'freedom,' 'democracy' or 'human rights.' Those phrases have been the cornerstone of every Western military campaign for the past 100 years, and yet just as in wars past, the instigators of the wars have grown phenomenally wealthy, while the brave died, and the world actually grew less free.
Anyone that's ever handed a folded flag to a crying mother knows how important it is for her to believe that her son died for something, even while a simmering rage boils inside you, knowing that their death changed little. It didn't make their family safer, more prosperous, more free or happier. It made some rich men richer.
These types of experience are why war veterans are typically the most vociferous anti-war advocates. If that crying mother knew beforehand that war was a racket, perhaps she'd never have let her child join up. We can honor the bravery and ferocity of our ancestors without throwing our children into the same meatgrinder. Only when we refuse to fight one another for the profit of oligarchs that despise us can we begin to take back the West.
As this holiday is close to our hearts, we are offering 15% off all purchases through midnight on Monday, May 26th with code NOMOREBROTHERWARS. We only offer two sales per year, and this is one of them.
Have a happy Memorial Day with your families, honor those warriors of the past that share your blood, and think of what we might accomplish fighting for ourselves instead of those who see us as disposable, replaceable tools.
Let's head into summer thinking and smelling fresh.
