Yesterday, the Leadership Mission to Canada delegation attended a walkthrough of Sherbrooke University’s Quantum Institute which highlighted Canada’s quantum strategy and ongoing projects in areas such as quantum sensing, telecommunications, cybersecurity and cryptography. The tour also included demonstrations of experimental infrastructure such as cryogenic systems, fabrication equipment, and precision testing technologies used in the development of next-generation quantum devices.

Joining Atkins Réalis at their headquarters this week in Québec, delegation members received an overview of Québec and Canada’s evolving nuclear energy sector, which plays an increasing role in supporting economic growth, technological innovations like small modular reactors, and broader North American energy security objectives—including right here in Florida. The group also discussed opportunities for collaboration between government, academic institutions and industry players in advanced manufacturing, workforce development, engineering and energy-intensive emerging technologies.

On Monday, @SelectFLA kicked off the Trade & Business Development Leadership Mission to Canada with a Welcome Reception and Country Briefing hosted by Invest Québec. The delegation received insight into Canada’s priority sectors, regional dynamics, and the broader policy framework shaping business and investment opportunities in industries, including military and defense, aerospace and aviation, advanced manufacturing, maritime, quantum technology and nuclear energy. It also highlighted the strength and depth of the Canada–Florida economic relationship—setting the delegation up for a meaningful and productive week in Montréal and Toronto.

On Monday, @SelectFLA’s Gateways Advisory Council held its third quarterly meeting, bringing together stakeholders from Florida’s airports, seaports, spaceports, transportation and logistics partners at the @beaconcouncil. The group heard from stakeholder and event sponsor, @Clear, on identity and security challenges, and received updates on Florida’s Foreign Trade Zones and efforts in Advanced Air Mobility.

Earlier this week, @SelectFLA’s Economic Development Advisory Council met for its quarterly meeting at the @beaconcouncil. In addition to discussing the state’s efforts to advance strategic economic initiatives, the board heard success stories, including from shoe manufacturer Redeplast USA. This event was sponsored by @SRCEDO.

Today’s @SelectFLA Board Meeting in Miami brought together state leaders, economic partners, companies and stakeholders to discuss Florida’s international and economic prosperity. The Board heard from guest speakers including UAE Consul General H.E. Mohammed AL Ahbabu, President and CEO of Miami Dade Beacon Council Rod Miller and Frederick Wong of Port Miami, as well as success stories from Pasco County Economic Development Council, Buddy of Parents and Avionica.
