It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them. While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they’re right.

Great to see the SKA (Square Kilometre Array) launched in Perth and Murchison yesterday. International mega science projects offer huge opportunities for collaboration, for new knowledge and technological development. I’m proud of Labor governments for supporting this program.

The Liberals are trying to claim that privatisation doesn't affect electricity prices - you tell me. Their obsession with privatisation means that you pay more. From tolls to electricity. Under a Labor Government - this ends.

They’re at it again Just days out from the election Michaelia Cash appoints another 6 Liberal mates, including 2 defeated WA Liberal MPs, to lucrative taxpayer funded jobs on the AAT paying up $496,000 a year. That’s at least 85 Liberal mates on the AAT now since 2013.

I have decided not to seek endorsement for a place on the ALP Vic Senate ticket at the coming election. When my current term ends on June 30, it will bring to an end my time as a senator, which began in April 1993, when I filled a vacancy created by the retirement of John Button.

Tragic news about the passing of my caucus and Senate colleague Kimberley Kitching, who has been taken far too young. My deepest condolences to her husband Andrew and family.

Ministerial vetoes of peer-reviewed research grants should be extremely rare and properly explained to Parliament. But this government has made the veto a weapon in far-right culture wars

Sad to hear of the passing of Moss Cass, a great Labor stalwart who served as environment and conservation minister and minister for the media in the Whitlam government. Moss laid the foundations of modern politics in these areas. We are all in his debt.

6 projects recommended by the experts and the ARC but vetoed by the Minister. No real explanation or transparency, peoples livelihoods disrupted on a minister whim. @ARC_Tracker #research #estimates
