Following the devastating wildfires that burned over 800,000 acres in Garden, Grant, Lincoln, and Morrill counties, I joined the Nebraska delegation in sending a letter to Secretary Rollins on the immediate need for a wildfire disaster designation. This designation would unlock emergency FSA loans to aid in wildfire relief efforts.

Today, I led a letter to @USDA to support and encourage the agency’s efforts to combat New World Screwworm and safeguard Nebraska cattle against this parasite.
USDA should work with producers to develop effective prevention, detection, and response strategies.
We’ve eradicated NWS before and we need to do it again.

I have been briefed by @NEMAtweets regarding the wildfire burning northwest of Fort Robinson and Crawford. The terrain in that area is extremely rugged and windy conditions are compounding the challenge.
I have ordered all necessary resources—including @NENationalGuard helicopter units—to support local firefighters. Our team is coordinating with the U.S. Forest Service, which is also deploying additional assets.
Please keep our firefighters and responders in your prayers as they continue a tough and dangerous fight through the night, and if you are in the affected area follow all orders from local authorities.

Nebraska’s ranchers are the best in the world. They’ve shown it this year in response to the devastating fires across our state.
They also need our continued support. Ranchers recently shared with me that one-size-fits all policies are hindering their ability to rebuild.
That’s why I introduced the FENCE Act. This bill would provide greater flexibility for grazing and land management practices. I am committed to ensuring Nebraskans have what they need to rebuild and recover.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the 75th anniversary of the Mutual Defense Treaty Between the United States and the Republic of the Philippines, and the 10th anniversary of the landmark arbitral award upholding Manila’s sovereignty against escalating aggression and lawfare by Communist China.
I have seen firsthand Communist China’s illegal, coercive, aggressive, and deceptive actions against the Philippines. That’s why I introduced a resolution as a reminder that the United States will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our Filipino allies.

Last week, a proposed list of simplified faith codes was released to the media. The Pentagon list included redundant and unnecessary labeling, and the mistake has been fixed.
The goal of this effort is to simplify a previously out-of-control “belief” coding system that had ballooned to over 200 codes.
In order to clarify the work of chaplains, and simplify the work of commanders, the Pentagon has consolidated and simplified the list to roughly thirty codes — using the previously used labels for faiths.
The Pentagon’s job is not to adjudicate theological debates, but instead to ensure sincerely-held faith is respected and encouraged in our ranks.

With funding from @SenateGOP directed at combatting this threat, @USDA is leading the fight.
We also discussed my farm bill priorities including the fair labeling of beef products and strengthening support for producers recovering from wildfires.
Nebraska is the beef state, I’ll never stop fighting for our farmers and ranchers.

After previously being eradicated in the United States, New World Screwworm has been confirmed in Texas. NWS poses a serious threat to the health of our cattle and the cattle industry. It does not, however, pose food safety concerns for consumers.
On behalf of Nebraska farmers and ranchers, I will be working with @USDA to eradicate this parasite again.

Today, we honor the bravery of the Allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy 82 years ago. We also recognize the critical contributions made by Nebraskans like Andrew Jackson Higgins. He designed and built the landing craft that carried them to victory. We will never forget the sacrifices made by the Greatest Generation to defend our freedoms.
