Climate change is increasing costs for insurance, construction, and food, along with more out-of-pocket disaster damage. We urgently need to slow down, stop and reverse the buildup of climate pollution in the atmosphere.

Took this picture ten years ago on Veteran’s Day in Glidden off Highway 30. I personally knew a World War I veteran, my grandfather. Let us always commemorate this day and strive continually for the peace it envisions.

Did you the so-called “clean CR” passed by the U.S. House would only operate the government through November 21?!?!? Time for Republicans to get back to work and negotiate with Democrats if they want Democratic votes to end the shutdown.

Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is over 4 inches below average since September 1 - 65.6% below average - and there is very little precipitation in the forecast. Please conserve, water your young trees, and take action to help stop the buildup of climate pollution in the atmosphere.

The death toll from the current hurricane is climbing. Please support disaster relief. Only 13 years after Sandy made landfall in New Jersey and New York - with hundreds of disasters since then - we still have not learned the lessons of that storm. pbs.org/newshour/world/hurri…

I was encouraged to see the solar panels on Grace United Methodist Church along Highway 6 in Tiffin today. Solar reduces energy costs and air pollution. It is something many building owners and landowners can do. (1/2)

Homelessness is real and gets more dangerous as temperatures fall this time of year. A person who has been finding places to sleep outside visited our church today while I was there with other church members. No room at the shelters in town which the person called earlier today.

Not allowed to set up a tent on city property. No vehicle to sleep in. No warming centers. Emergency shelter does not open until November 15. Our church is not equipped to house people, so we gave some food and a little cash.

Sounds like the community needs more shelter space earlier and more services. I am sure this is true for many communities, not just Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
