Someone asked me why I try to ruffle so many feathers when I’m doing my job. Staff and I are just telling the truth about how your $ is spent (and we document & prove everything). If the truth ruffles feathers, so be it. Maybe MS was overdue for some feather ruffling.

Why would you put Democrats on this committee?
Today, I am announcing the formation of a Senate Select Committee on Redistricting and Reapportionment following the Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais and the Governor’s decision to rescind the upcoming special session on Supreme Court redistricting. This committee’s work will begin immediately in preparation for the 2027 legislative session or sooner should the Governor call us back in session. I have full confidence that this committee, led by Senator Kirby, will meet in the coming months to gather information, review data, and evaluate potential future redistricting of congressional, legislative, and State Supreme Court districts in light of the Callais decision. To read more about this committee, visit: ltgovhosemann.ms.gov/lieuten…

I haven’t announced what I’m running for yet, but if were governor, I would 1. Call a special session to redistrict Bennie Thompson out 2. Declare a state of emergency and ban all foreign ownership of farmland 3. Based on all the audits I’ve done, start immediately cutting the fat in state government (sell the state plane, freeze new state car purchases and office leases until those are right-sized, etc.) 4. Call for a freeze on property taxes 5. Issue an executive order banning DEI as unconstitutional and that would be the first hour.

I was looking forward to next year’s Governors race in Mississippi. I was honestly undecided and waiting for candidates to officially announce. However, I am no longer undecided. @shadwhite is the ONLY statewide candidate calling for Mississippi to redraw their congressional voting district lines to eliminate race-based gerrymandering (now considered illegal and unconstitutional). As such he has my full support. All the other candidates are too quiet, too late, and/or no shows. #shadwhiteforgovernor

The liberal New York Times has a piece this morning calling me out for being the champion for getting rid of Bennie Thompson through redistricting. Good. When you start taking flak, you’re over the target.

Saddened by the loss of my friend, Dan Fordice, son of former Gov. Kirk Fordice. Every Fordice I ever met was a fighter and truth-teller. We need more of those, and we lost a good one today. Prayers for the Fordice family this evening.

Audit Finds Millions Spent Despite Large Number of Student Absences at Child Care Centers JACKSON, Miss. – Approximately 20% of childcare centers accounted for 90% of reported paid absences in Mississippi’s Child Care Payment Program (CCPP), according to a new report released by the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor. The report also found taxpayers likely paid between $13.8 million and $30.9 million during Federal Fiscal Year 2024 for children who were reported absent from childcare centers. “We all remember the massive Minnesota daycare fraud and the ‘Learing Center,’” said White. “While we’ve not yet found something as egregious, taxpayer money is clearly paying centers in Mississippi when kids are not showing up.” The report found taxpayers likely paid up to $30.9 million during Federal Fiscal Year 2024 for children who were reported absent from childcare centers. Five centers alone accounted for more than 40% of unattended-yet-paid days among sampled childcare centers. Due to Biden-era rules, providers are paid with CCPP dollars based on enrollment rather than attendance, meaning centers receive taxpayer-funded payments whether children show up or not. Auditors found that more than 13% of sampled payments were made for days when recipient children were reported absent. Current federal regulations allow childcare providers to continue receiving payments for up to 60 consecutive days of absences before a child’s certificate may be revoked. Only then is money cut off from the centers. “As a father I know that if my kid missed school for even one day, I would get notified immediately,” said Auditor White. “The fact that these centers still receive tax dollars even if the kids are gone for up to two months is completely crazy and a total waste of your tax dollars.” The full report can be found under the “Reports” tab on the Auditor’s website and searching “Child Care.”

Later today we’re going to release an audit of childcare spending in Mississippi. Everyone has heard about the Somali childcare scandal in Minnesota. We haven’t found the scale of the fraud that exists there, but we did find millions going to centers when the kids were not showing up. Part of that is due to a Biden-era rule that said a childcare center could get money for a kid up until the kid missed a massive 60 straight days. That’s crazy to me. I’m a dad, and if my kid misses a single day of school I get a text and letter about it. The way these federal childcare programs are structured is insanely wasteful. VP @JDVance’s anti-fraud team is doing a great job, and I recommend they take a look at all these sorts of rules that waste our money. They will crack down on this.

I’ve heard the GOP establishment in Mississippi say we can’t redistrict Bennie Thompson out because the mapmakers might mess up and accidentally create two Democrat districts. If that were true, the Mississippi Democrat Party would be fighting to redraw the map. They would want it. Instead they’re fighting against it. That tells you everything you need to know. Redraw the lines.
