State Auditor @ShadWhite Issues Statement on Fitch v. White Ruling JACKSON, Miss. – Today State Auditor @ShadWhite issued the following statement on the Mississippi Supreme Court ruling in the Fitch v. White case: “Now that the court has ruled that Lynn Fitch has the sole authority to file suit to get misspent taxpayer money back, I can only assume the Attorney General will now change course and begin to aggressively fight in court for the recovery of all the welfare money. Maybe she will fight as hard to do that as she fought to stop me from recovering the money. Mississippi taxpayers deserve nothing less.”

This is what happens when oversight fails. Los Angeles has more than 72,000 homeless people living on its streets. Meanwhile, the Homeless Services Authority allegedly: • Funneled $2.1M to the CEO's husband's nonprofit • Issued $5M in unmonitored cash advances • Left $513M unspent in 2024 Glad to see @WHFraudTF and @HUDgov taking steps to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable. foxnews.com/politics/trump-a…

Another win in the fight against fraud. 👏 Thanks to @MSStateAuditor Shad White & his team for helping uncover nearly $400,000 in stolen education funds & ensuring those responsible are held accountable. Every taxpayer dollar recovered is a dollar that goes back to the American people.
Our Office was proud to work with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi and the Trump Administration’s Task Force to Eliminate Fraud on this case and get justice on behalf of taxpayers. "Thank you to my team that helped uncover the facts on this case and to the US Attorney’s Office for prosecuting. We will continue to work as hard as we can to hold anyone who steals taxpayer funds accountable,” said @MSStateAuditor @ShadWhite. justice.gov/usao-ndms/pr/thr…

Everyone always says that we should operate government like a business. Sometimes there are laws in place that would stop that from happening. But often, government fails to make simple changes that would save the state money. Take state owned golf courses. Our Project Momentum found that the state wastes up to $600,000 every year through bad leases and poorly purposed land. Project Momentum offers a clear path to saving over $330 million per year in government waste, but it’s only possible from attacking waste like this. Project Momentum can found here or by searching for “momentum” under the Reports tab at osa.ms.gov/

Yesterday our office participated in the house select committee hearing on procurement and how state agencies can get better deals for taxpayers. We shared recommendations from our Project Momentum audit that identified potential savings of up to $150M across state government if we reformed our procurement process. Simple changes like allowing agencies to share state contracts and improving procurement coordination between schools would save Mississippi taxpayers millions. Anyone who would like to read more about our recommendations can go on our website and search “Project Momentum.”

🚨 $1.2 BILLION in Medicaid fraud in Ohio and Auditor Keith Faber is exposing it. @OhioAuditor’s office found ~15% of home healthcare claims bypassed required tracking systems. That’s over $1B in fraudulent payments. Real oversight beats more spending. thecentersquare.com/national…

Applications for the Gulf Coast Restoration Fund are now open! In our previous report of the fund we found that the legislature often awards funds to projects that never submitted an application. The Legislature should follow the established process and not simply award funds to their own pet projects

✅ Yes @MSStateAuditor Shad White! Spot on. Every corner of government should be under the microscope. Small agencies, boards & commissions can hide tons of waste and fraud. Thank you for protecting taxpayer dollars! 👏
It doesn't matter if it's a large federal program or a small state agency; if they're wasting your tax dollars, we're going to find it and let taxpayers know.

Mississippi can lower car tag fees and provide relief to taxpayers if we get serious about cutting the waste in state government. "State Auditor @ShadWhite argues that cutting government waste could ease that burden of car tag fees."

REMINDER: You can go to the Non-Profit Spending Dashboard under the "Reports" tab on our website and search up any non-profit that received taxpayer funds over the last five years and the state agency that gave them the funds. The dashboard will be updated to reflect 2026 payments when the information is available. Taxpayers deserve this kind of transparency.
