In April 2026, SEG conducted a two-day site visit to Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College (A-B Tech) in North Carolina to review progress on the College’s federally-funded Title III RISE Above project.
This grant program strengthens the capacity of higher education institutions in insular areas to carry out resident instruction, curriculum, and teaching programs in the food and agricultural sciences through distance education technology.
The SEED program provides funding to increase the number of highly effective educators by supporting the implementation of evidence-based practices that prepare, develop, or enhance the skills of educators to improve student outcomes.
The purposes of the EOC Program are to: provide information regarding financial and academic assistance available for qualified individuals who want to enter or continue to pursue a program of postsecondary education.
Deadline: May 14, 2026
The program goal is to improve academic and vocational/trade programs available to people in prisons and jails and expand workforce development and career pathways that result in improved job readiness, employment attainment, and retention.
The purpose of the Talent Search Program is to identify qualified individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds with potential for education at the postsecondary level and encourage them to complete secondary school and undertake postsecondary education.
Last month, Dr. Shaffer represented SEG at the DoDEA Region V Community of Practice meeting in Wichita Falls, TX. Region V includes Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Utah and represents a diverse set of grant-funded projects and military-connected communities.
This program welcomes proposals that address AI and cybersecurity education and workforce development. The Innovation Track supports projects that enhance preparation of AI and/or cybersecurity professionals.

Project Counterbalance addressed barriers that lead to higher deregistration, stop-out rates, lower retention, and lower completion rates among students at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College (AB-Tech).
The "Tribal Resiliency Grant" project sought to develop six "community quilt" courses as supports to enhance students' academic performance in core courses and to increase student retention in secondary and post-secondary courses.
