It's Carers Week, and this year’s theme, 'Caring About Equality', calls on all of us to recognise and address the challenges and inequalities faced by unpaid carers.
@carersweek
Unpaid carers provide essential support to family members, friends, or neighbours who are disabled, living with a mental or physical illness, or in need of extra help as they grow older. They do this without pay, often while juggling work, studies, and their own health and wellbeing.
There are 5.8 million unpaid carers in the UK, but despite the vital role that they play in our society, many of them still go unrecognised and unsupported. In fact, research by
@CarersUK found that a whopping 1.2 million unpaid carers in the UK live in poverty. They are also more likely to experience loneliness and serious impacts on their mental and physical health.
Whether it's advocating for better policies, offering a helping hand, or simply taking the time to listen, every action we take helps build a fairer, more compassionate society. It’s time to ensure unpaid carers are no longer overlooked, but truly seen, supported and valued.
