In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. -John 16:33 Do not chase “happiness”. Pursue holiness.

I remember a time when everyone would be stoked that an influential & very likable Orthodox priest got an invite to a high profile media outlet. Now we have a sizable minority of know it all converts who engage in contrarian hen-pecking like it’s some kind of ascetic endeavor.
Fr. Stephen de Young just confirmed that he received a direct blessing from Metropolitan Saba to appear on Tucker Carlson. So take it up with the Metropolitan if you're offended.

Most of us, at one time or another, have all been the loud-mouthed zealot about something. It’s ok and it comes with the territory, especially these days. Make your journey down that wide path a minor detour, as opposed to the preferred route of travel.

This guy(Saint)gets it.
‘Everyone baptised in the name of the Trinity is a Christian, whatever confession he may belong to. The true faith is one—the Orthodox; yet all Christian confessions also continue to exist by the long-suffering of the Almighty. The Gospel is one and the same everywhere and for all, though it is not understood and explained by all in the same way. The errors of those who have fallen away from the Orthodox Catholic Church are not to be reproached to those who from birth have been brought up in one or another confession. Simple souls believe in simplicity according to the teaching entrusted to them, without being troubled by religious controversies inaccessible to them. Their spiritual guides will answer to God for them. Learned theologians are found among all Christian peoples, and devout people have been and will be found both in the Greek-Catholic, Orthodox Church and in the Roman Catholic Church. True religious tolerance does not harden itself at the wall that divides Christians, but grieves for those in error and prays “for the union of all.”’ –St. Philaret (Drozdov)

It’s true, we Orthodox do attract ALOT of weirdos, scumbags, autistic people, outcasts, racists, whores, addicts, mentally ill… “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”-Mark 2:17
Having spent maybe 20 yrs on forums and on weird internet etc one of consistent signs of mental illness is conversion to Orthodox Christianity. Only exception is like family men in 40s who are Anglican but want a church for their kids, facing a practical problem.

Imagine being at a giant feast with gold place settings and the best tasting culinary fare you’ve ever seen, and some goofballs are sitting on the floor in the corner trying to convince you to sit with them instead and eat the crumbs that fell on the floor. That’s what this is.

I’m thankful there are so many wonderful priests & lay who have the patience to deal with people like this because I do not. I’m a big softie when it comes to my 🇻🇦 bros but I have absolutely nothing but disdain for these fundy sects throwing out of context Bible verses at us.

“The function of the icon… is based on the principle that we become like that which we habitually contemplate. True icons focus the distracted, dispersed soul of man on spiritual perfection and on the divine.“ -Fr Constantine Cavarnos *mandilion icon I completed in 22’(sold)

Below is a great explanation as to the reason why I painted this little icon several years ago.
☦️ Look closely at any traditional Eastern Orthodox icon of the Resurrection (the Anastasis). Notice something specific about the hands? Christ isn't holding hands with Adam and Eve. He’s gripping them fiercely by the wrists, and their hands are hanging completely limp. This is known as the "life-giving grip," one of the most profoundly symbolic details in Eastern Orthodox iconography. In Orthodox tradition, the dead have zero agency or power. Adam and Eve cannot pull themselves up by their own bootstraps; they can't even muster the strength to reach back to God. By grabbing them by the wrist (right at the pulse point), Christ is physically infusing life back into them and dragging humanity out of the grave by His own sheer power. You can also see this in frescoes depicting Christ saving Peter from drowning or raising Jairus's daughter.

Egg tempera isn’t inherently “spiritual” as a medium, and its use in iconography stems from historical circumstance rather than any intrinsic sacred quality.
Give me your heaviest take.

It’s a beautiful medium, but it more often than not gets unnecessarily tangled up in all sorts of hyper-esoteric woo that can be a spiritually distracting vehicle for naive snobbery and vaingloriousness.

I’ve been quite busy the last few weeks finishing up several projects including the sanctuary at this parish in Washington state. Still more work to do there but coming along nicely. If your parish is interested in acquiring large scale mural iconography send me a DM/email.🙂

Blessed Lent! Stoked to be back here working on this church. God willing I’ll finish the sanctuary program this visit. There are alot more services added to their already busy service schedule due to lent, so please pray that God gives me supernatural efficiency.👀☦️❤️

Once again… 👀☦️☘️
Blessed Feast of St Patrick Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me. *commission from 2023

US troops report commanders framing Iran war as ‘God’s plan’ —— As first reported by independent journalist Jonathan Larsen, a US combat-unit commander told non-commissioned officers that the war on Iran is part of “God’s divine plan,” allegedly claiming President Donald Trump was “anointed by Jesus” to ignite Armageddon. The complaint, filed with the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, is one of more than 110 logged within 48 hours from over 40 units across at least 30 installations. Complainants, including Christians, a Muslim, and a Jew, have requested anonymity to avoid retaliation. The Pentagon has yet to respond. According to MRFF President Mikey Weinstein, service members report “unrestricted euphoria” among segments of the chain of command portraying the assault on Iran as biblically sanctioned and tied to end-times prophecy in the Book of Revelation. One NCO wrote that such rhetoric is eroding morale and violating constitutional oaths, particularly for troops in Ready-Support status who could be deployed at any moment. The controversy unfolds as Secretary of War Pete Hegseth expands overt evangelical programming within the Pentagon, including prayer sessions and Bible studies aligned with staunch pro-Israel theology. Weinstein reports that many US commanders appear particularly enthused by the prospect of an intensely violent confrontation, emphasizing how much bloodshed they believe is necessary to align events with a fundamentalist Christian end-times narrative.

I really miss working on this project and all the people here. God bless Holy Trinity and the amazing Orthodox Christians in Montana who are the inheritors of this historic parish community founded by the great St Sebastian Dabovich. 👀
A Blessed Sunday of Orthodoxy from all of us at Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church in Butte, Montana to you!

I added this medallion of St Sebastian holding their parish at the request of the parish priest. I used an old photo of St Sebastian(sans glasses at the priest’s request)as a prototype, and a side view pic of their parish. In addition to being founded by St Sebastian, this parish was also consecrated by St Tikhon of Moscow. Incredibly historic American church that was a major blessing for me to work on.
