Fun Fact : The word ‘petal’ appears nowhere in the entire works of Shakespeare. For it was introduced into English - from Ancient Greek πέταλον & Latin petalum (thin metal plate) - by botanists in the early 18th century. Before that, I think petals were just called leaves.

A conservator at work on the (now infamous) fresco in the new excavations in Region 9, #Pompeii. But the most poignant detail is that the original painter was interrupted & never finished their masterpiece: the border remains white with dripped blobs of black paint. #FrescoFriday
