Being sleep deprived due to the World Cup is normal but which nation's fans have their sleep disrupted the most? Spare a thought for the Algerian football fans! Group-stage kick off times converted to each team’s local time and how much sleep might be lost. Source: reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful…

"This Sunday night’s UFC spectacle on the South Lawn...captures something about this moment in our history. It's vulgar, violent, commercial, grandiose, tacky, and it dishonors a place once thought worthy of care and respect. In other words, it’s Donald Trump." open.substack.com/pub/thebul…

How far is FIFA going with its brand restrictions? The condiments at the Levi’s Stadium press box have all been taped over 😆

Hoping the best thing that comes out of this @FIFAWorldCup is that those Americans who have been fed the hate by Trump, Vance & Musk finally turn to realise the vast majority of the folk beyond the United States don’t want to bring any trouble & strife to their shores. They just come with curiosity, want to be sociable, have a laugh, a few drinks and party. Nice to see the @X feed showing natural positive human behaviour and not engineered hate pushed by an algorithm. That’s the power of The Beautiful Game ⚽️

All I keep seeing on my timeline is English and Americans arguing. Just to clarify a few things… 1 - America is a great place to visit, it has almost everything. 2 - Americans are friendly, some of the nicest people you’ll meet. 3 - Not all Americans are fat, it’s a myth. Go to Miami and you’ll see hardly any! 4 - Americans aren’t rude, they can be abrupt at times but rarely rude. 5 - The stadiums are incredible there but we in Europe prefer more raw, less flat pack types of stadiums. Both can be impressive! 6 - USA have a half decent team and a solid manager, it’s better for the tournament if they progress but as soon as they come up against an elite side I do expect them to falter. My main point is this…. The angry tribe on X is not the average American who tend to be warm, engaging and have a like for the English. Don’t fall into the hatred of social media. Just enjoy the World Cup if you can. #worldcup #england #USA_Paraguay

The first task of any Government is to ensure the safety & security of its citizens, from threats foreign & domestic. When a Government’s Defence Minister resigns in protest of underfunding its a major alarm bell. Particularly in these dangers, turbulent times. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8d2…

It’s Day 2 of the World Cup and Micah Richards is peaking like its final day. Did he have Cheerios for breakfast?

Trump claims a US-Iran peace deal (for the umpteenth time) on the eve of the biggest IPO in history. What are the odds?

Never understood why Steve Hodge doesn’t get national football TV co-commentary pundit gigs. He’s the most insightful pundit I hear over the course of a season and he’s played at the highest level internationally. Always learn something when listening to Hodge. I never learn anything listening to Lee Dixon or any of the others. It’s just say-what-you-see punditry.

If you can’t sing your national anthem you shouldn’t be starting. No matter what the country / anthem.

It’s like the Americans didn’t realise when they agreed to host the World Cup that it would mean having to let a fair number of foreigners into their country to play in and watch the matches, as that’s sort of part of the deal.
