An afternoon well spent. I decided to adorn our Indian Cart with some summery planters. I’ve topped the pots with our crushed shells, which will help retain moisture during the Summer months, they look prettier than soil and will help to deter slugs too.

A snapshot of the process at our seafood processing business here is West Wales. Established in the 70’s by my husband’s grandfather, our company has processed all manner of shellfish over the years from lobster and crabs to scallops and whelks. 1/3

Currently in its third generation, we now specialise in processing whelks. In 2019 we launched Shell on Earth as a way of recycling the shells that are a by-product of our processing. We’re unable to put them back into the sea so we had to find a creative way of utilising 2/3

Layering your bulbs in a pot to create a bulb lasagne so you can enjoy weeks of Spring flowers. I’ve used tulips as the bottom layer, daffodils in the middle and iris reticulata on top. #GardeningTwitter #gardening

Planting up a succulent terrarium. I use a free draining soil mix consisting of compost, grit & perlite. I top dress with crushed shells to anchor the plants. I put the tallest plant at the back of the terrarium first. I always plant in odd numbers - I think it works well.

Topped the emerging hostas with more of the crushed whelk shells I was kindly gifted by @ShellEarth to help the battle against slugs & snails, though might have trouble guarding against this one !

Evening all. Added the recycled crushed whelk shells to the pots of emerging hostas that I was kindly gifted by @ShellEarth as part of the battle against slugs & snails & they look great too.
