Dear @BHAHorseracing - away from the import of the Benvenuto Cellini decision, instead of issuing a reactive blog as the end-point, perhaps a proper system/vehicle of annotation, explanation and operation-tracking could be established?

We are very fortunate to have obtained three copies of @paraderingedge books on paddock watching. Now listeners of our podcast will be aware that we are very fond of Geoffrey Hutson's book 'Watching Racehorses' as at the time it was the only book on paddock watching that applied the angles to data (i.e the misnomer on sweating)

Dear @BHAHorseracing - given recent events, I think there is a lacuna in the regulatory offering. As with actual legislation, have you considered annotated notes to the Rules of Racing? These would explain the 'spirit of the law' and material which doesn't make it into the rules?

The majority of cases reported in general law reports revolve around statutory interpretation. The blunt point is how rules are written causes problems. And by the power of Benvenuto Cellini, here we are. This whole shemozzle needs to lead back to the source and be fixed.
