In 2020, @CurveFinance solved a problem that sounds simple but wasn't. @Uniswap's x·y=k works for everything. Which means it's optimal for nothing. Try swapping $1M USDC for USDT on a constant product pool: you'd eat $3,000 in slippage on assets that are supposed to be worth the same dollar. That math is wrong for stables, and everyone knew it. Curve's answer was the StableSwap invariant. A blend of two formulas: constant sum near the peg (almost zero slippage), constant product at the edges (so the pool survives if something breaks). The blend is controlled by one variable: A, the amplification factor. High A means the pool trusts the peg. Tight spreads, efficient swaps. Low A means the pool hedges: it starts behaving like Uniswap, protecting itself at the tail. Here's what most people miss: A is set by governance. Curve DAO votes to raise it when peg confidence is high, drops it when risk arrives... usually 7 to 14 days before the rate changes actually hit. The 3pool sat at A=2000 heading into 2022. By March 2023, USDC depegged and the pool was draining fast and composition shifted from 33/33/33 to 28/36/36 in hours, because the flat zone that makes Curve efficient is exactly what lets arbs drain the healthy asset when something cracks. Tight spreads near peg. You pay it back at the tail. By the time CT noticed the depeg, the arb was already done. The people who read the A-factor governance proposals 10 days before knew the pool was hedging. Curve stopped making noise years ago. Every stable swap you make pays it rent. Today I’m seeing stablecoins compete across exchanges, LP programs, portfolio margin systems, and staking products. The latest example is USD1 on @Gate through Soft Staking. Hold as little as 1 USD1, no lockup, hourly balance snapshots, rewards paid in $USD1. The campaign launched at 20% APR, though the rate adjusts as participation grows.
