New study would appear to support instructional coaching models of PD. Programmes that rely only on teachers self-reflection are unlikely to shift classroom practice meaningfully and that PD should be should be designed around specific, observable teaching moves and include deliberate rehearsal with feedback. Interesting point made also that certain very practical classroom skills, like managing off‑task behaviour through redirection, are rarely taught explicitly in teacher‑preparation coursework (for example, in PGCEs or university‑based teacher training programmes) A limitation is that the tasks were practised in simulated environments, not real classrooms, so we should be cautious in generalising to live settings. However, the design isolates the effect of coaching well and features multiple randomisation. ovid.com/journals/jedup/abst…

Happy Easter, Everyone!

Look who I ran into in Delta Sky Club! I’m headed to present in NY and Jim’s going to a conference in Toronto. Thankful for the impact he has had on my life as an instructional leader. He is my reminder that we should each encourage each other to reach our highest potential.

What a wonderful day digging into Intentional Instructional Moves at the beautiful Kodak Center! Can’t wait to return.

Today as I flew to NY to present I reflected on all the educational giants that have helped me advance the importance of instructional leadership through coaching. It has also reminded of the importance of supporting those younger than me in the profession. So thankful to serve.
