اللَّهُمَّ عَجِّل لِوَلِيِّكَ الْفَرَج

Preparations start in the Holy City of Karbala for the month of sorrow - Muharram. Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar and a time of remembrance for the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS) the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). On the Day of Ashura in Karbala, Imam Hussain (AS) and his loyal companions gave their lives standing for truth, justice, and faith against oppression. More than 1400 years later, his message continues to inspire millions around the world to uphold dignity, courage, and righteousness.

The Flag changing ceremony is set to take place on the evening of 16th of June 2026 (Subject to moon sighting) Each year, on the eve of Muharram, millions gather at the holy shrines of Imam Hussain (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS) in Karbala as the red flags are lowered and black flags of mourning are raised. This deeply symbolic ceremony announces the arrival of the month in which Imam Hussain (AS), his family, and his loyal companions were marty’ed in the tragedy of Karbala in 61 AH. For millions of believers around the world, the changing of the flag is more than a tradition it is a reminder of the timeless message of Karbala: standing for truth, justice, dignity, and faith in the face of oppression. As the black banners rise above the sacred shrines, hearts turn toward Karbala, and the remembrance of Ashura begins once again. It is a moment that unites people across nations and generations in honoring the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS) and renewing their commitment to the values for which he gave everything.

The Day of Mubahila A day that testified to the truth of Islam and the unmatched status of the Ahlulbayt (as). When challenged by the delegation of Najran, the Messenger of Allah brought with him only those nearest and purest to him: Imam Ali (as), Lady Fatimah (sa), Imam Hasan (as), and Imam Husain (as). Mubahila is more than a historical event it is a reminder that truth stands firm, sincerity prevails, and those chosen by Allah hold a unique station in His divine plan. Children of Muslim bin Aqeel (AS) Muslim bin Aqeel (AS) was the cousin and ambassador of Imam Hussain (AS). When Imam Hussain (AS) received thousands of letters from the people of Kufa inviting him to go and rule over them, Imam Hussain (AS) sent Muslim bin Aqeel (AS) as his emissary to go and assess the situation and report to him. However, to show that he was going in peace, Imam Hussain (AS) told Muslim bin Aqeel to go with his two very young children, Muhammad (aged 10) and Ibrahim (aged 8) (PBUT) On the capture and martyrdom of Hazrat Muslim bin Aqeel on the 9th Zul Hijjah, his two sons were taken into captivity. They stayed locked in the dungeons until 20th Dhul Hijjah, when a prison guard, on seeing the two brothers diligently offering their morning prayer and learning that they were from the family of Imam Ali (as), released them. The two boys tried to leave Kufa to reach Imam Hussain (as) and warn him of the Kufan’s treachery. However seeing that all the roads were blocked, they drank water from the River Euphrates, and as the day was breaking they climbed up a tree to hide. A sympathetic woman discovered them and took them home to hide them. However, her husband Harith worked for the tyrant governor Ibn Ziyad, and on discovering them he firstly tied them up leaving them as such all night, and then the following day 22nd Dhul Hijjah he beheaded them by the river. These tragic deaths are poignant for us, because they carry so much meaning and tragedy. Their father was a most brave loyal man of Imam Hussain (as), and the children themselves despite their very young age, faced such hardship yet they remained steadfast and firm. Their only request before their martyrdom was to offer their prayers.
