Success and impact invites critics - neither China, Russia, nor other nefarious groups like me much - and neither, it seems, does Reuters Reporter, David Jeans, who wrote yet another critical piece about us. Again, he spins a misleading story - one, I felt deserves a short response, below:
We do work that comes with risk; including seeing our training facility leveled by a Russian missile attack in Ukraine last year. We operate in the artic, at the equator, and the most dangerous warzones on the planet - bad things happen in those places. Our people and equipment are assaulted by weather, waves, and enemies. That we've had as few safety issues as we have is a testament our culture of safety, the strength of our policies, and the safety of our equipment. The writer of course, from the safety of his home office, doesn't get it - and I don't expect him too - he won't step into the arena. Progress and security depends on people who will - so we do.
The result of our work has been the fielding of some of the most lethal and survivable weapons systems on the planet - operating at scale - at war - 24/7.
And on the other claims - Shield AI's first value - Do What Honor Dictates - shapes everything we do. Our sales doubled last year - but the year before that - we were flat year-over-year. Not good - and why? When we have challenges - and we do, all the time - we share them plainly and directly. We know and have always known forthrightness comes with tremendous business risk - purchases get be delayed - it can setback the business and crunch our cash positions. But, the course of action, is never in question - do the right thing, always - even it if makes look dumb or has existential consequences. It's what we have done throughout our history, and what will continue to do.
The world is dangerous, our work is hard, and the impact of the Shield AI team has been tremendous - and it has not been free or easy - nor will it be in the years ahead. I'm grateful to our incredible teammates and partners around the world - who believe in the mission - and do the hard work to provide security and stability for all.
