The world's first "search engine": the library of Ashurbanipal - Mesopotamia.
📚 The Ashurbanipal Library in Nineveh is considered the earliest known systematic library in history. However, what is truly fascinating is the organizational discipline within this library:
Classification System: Clay tablets were separated into different rooms based on subjects such as medicine, astronomy, literature, and magic.
Cataloging: On the edge of each tablet, there were "tags" indicating the title of the text and which series it belonged to, much like the information found on book spines today.
Copyright and Security: At the end of some tablets, there were sections containing severe curses against anyone who stole or damaged the tablet; this proves how valuable and protected information was considered at that time.
Thanks to this library, the most significant literary works of Mesopotamia, such as the Epic of Gilgamesh, have managed to survive to the present day.
