Little, if any of his wealth came from government contracts, welfare or otherwise. It's unrealized capital gains in his companies. It's like saying the government paid for your paint, brushes and canvas and you painted a masterpiece that sold for millions of dollars.

Austin Metcalf's Father just called Karmelo Anthony "watermelon felon".
I feel for his loss of his son, but this is incredibly racist and only increases racial divides. It’s pathetic that he has to return to this.
Watermelon has a long history as a racist stereotype used to mock and dehumanize Black people, especially in the United States after slavery and during the Jim Crow era.

Personally I think massive wealth inequality is a problem. Not because it’s ‘immoral’ in itself. But because it is unstable - it threatens to upend the conditions that make generating wealth possible in the first place - through Revolution and murder.
But this woman would waste every $ she took from the wealthy. Hand it out like from a pez dispenser to her pets, while she ‘gets me a beer’ while her lapdog husband watches.
There is no universe in which ‘progressive taxation’ makes sense in a society that is this dysfunctional and where the government is totally corrupt - just handing all the $$ to NGOs to waste.

Let me explain why I think Freddy resonates.
Lots of Europeans visit the USA as tourists. They visit New York City, or Washington DC, or Hollywood, or Las Vegas, and if they visit natural beauty too, they go to really crowded places like the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone.
So while they see our cultural and natural icons, they are mostly in blue cities and they therefore also see the decline, the homeless, the drugs, the dirt and the rude, rude Americans.
But Freddy is not doing that. Freddy is driving, and he’s doing it through the heartland, where people are kind and polite, the skies are wide open, and the bounty of Buc-ees and Bass Pro Shops are overwhelming.
Freddy is not seeing fentanyl and decline.
He is seeing the real, hopeful, patriotic, kind America that European tourists rarely traverse.
And he loves it.
That’s why Freddy is a phenomenon.

Personally, I don't think SpaceX going public is a good thing. As a private company they have a freer hand to do whatever they want. As a public company they have to answer to shareholders, nuisance lawsuits, and all that.

On the night of September 11th, Congressional leadership held a press conference on the steps of the Capitol to reassure the nation. After they were done speaking and holding a moment of silence, as everyone is shuffling away, someone started singing. In a few seconds, everyone—Republican and Democrat—joins in together to sing "God Bless America."
When @TheFP asked me to write about a Great American for their 250th series, I thought of that moment. And then I wrote about Irving Berlin, the man who loved America enough that this was the song our leaders reached for to express their hope in one of our darkest hours.
