So much buzz about the new 3D preview! Don’t be surprised if @nikitabier tweaks the algorithm to show you seductive 3D rendered golf courses instead of “content creators” with a free link in the comments.
Replying to @ShotPattern
@ShotPattern’s new 3D preview is absolutely mind blowing. For golfers who want to get better, they literally put your shot pattern as an overlay on holes to make better decisions. A

A three act golf story: - Struggle with the rights on Monday - Online lesson with @Nickolgolf on Thursday - Put on a SHOW with the driver on Saturday. Need to get my wife listening to @chasingscratch0 because I waited quite a while for the tent to arrive on 6 tee.

The addition of the 3D option gave us more options with map imagery. If your maps aren’t great for a course, try switching them like this!

Tucked Pins are GOOD FOR YOU** ** If you know how to pick smart targets. Every single hole location during this tournament was tucked close to an edge where you could really get yourself in trouble if you missed short-sided. At first, my reaction was “It’s gonna be hard to make birdies.“ After I was the only player in my group to stay dry on this hole (but was the worst skill-wise), I realized that all the difficult hole locations were actually pushing the odds in my favor. They were my advantage. On this hole, I used all of Shot Pattern’s tournament legal tools: (Green Books, Wind Meter, approach circle dispersion visuals) to pick a target that gave me the best chance. I ended up with 18 feet for birdie and poured it in to go 1-under. When you’ve got the right tools in your hands, you’re not just outsmarting the course, you’re also gaining an edge against your competition.

Tournament prep with a pin sheet and no practice round! Check the slopes you’ll face. Find similar slope on the practice green. Pour in some putts of various lengths. I hit some chips out of collection areas so I can feel comfortable attacking pins where I’ll be chipping back into an upslope if I miss short sided. (Shoutout @LukeKerrDineen) Then go in and set all the hole locations so they’re there the next day. (Not pictured - but of course I’ll preview every tee shot with the wind direction and mentally prep a club and target for each hole.)

Ever wondered if you should hit a certain shot? This is a great rule for you to think about when picking a target.

Is there any way to look at this and know with any certainty whether it’s time to buy a new wedge? @jertybird @engineeringolf

Hit a drive 320 yards down the middle only to make bogey from 65 yards because my dispersion with my lob wedge is the same as my 8-iron.

It’s rare to find a coach who has taken their own game to this level AND then turns around and builds mastery of the mental game, too. I’ve used so many concepts from Josh’s podcast to help my own game. Have found it tremendously helpful. Check this out!
In 2016, I qualified for my very first try at the U.S. Mid-Amateur. I failed to break 80 and missed match play. In 2017, I made it to the finals of the U.S. Mid-Amateur. I was one 36-hole match from playing in the U.S. Open and The Masters. I lost that final match, and I set my clubs to the side. I had been pursuing pro golf, but after that week I contentedly walked away from it (much longer story, but we’ll leave it at that for now 😅). In early 2019, I started my mental coaching business and my podcast The Mental Golf Show. I built up the business and the podcast over the years to where a couple years ago mental coaching became our family’s sole source of income. A dream come true! The podcast and the community around it have grown exponentially. And the engagement from listeners and readers has been incredible. I wanted to have a way for listeners to engage even deeper. So we built a whole new membership platform and just launched it this week. It’s called Mental Golf Club. Mental Golf Club is free to join, and it’s where all of our regular content is going to live on a brand new dashboard we built from the ground up. You can join here: app.joshnicholsgolf.com/ But you can go even further if you become a paying member. It’s called MGC . MGC gets you ad-free and early access to The Mental Golf Show episodes. And access to exclusive bonus Q&A episodes. And it’ll directly support the production of the podcast and my business ❤️ And the first 20 founding members of MGC will get to submit questions for our exclusive Q&A episodes. Beyond that only higher tier members will be able to submit questions. We’ve still got some spots open so come and get it! Ok, was excited to share that with you guys. Thanks for being an awesome community over the years. See you at the club!

Getting to scratch⛳️ In my experience: Advice from Scratch & Plus Hcp’s: “It’s mostly about increasing your GIR and avoiding big misses leading to penalties” Advice from Higher Hcp’s: “Spend ~75% of your practice time on chipping and putting” (Tip: use a strokes gained app)

• Set the hole location on Apple Watch • Quick club selector on Apple Watch • Live tracking indicator on Apple Watch and iPhone • Easy flip to map-based entry in-round if you miss a shot (I always plug in putts and chips using the map, rather than GPS). • Full visibility into every shot you’ve tracked during the round and easy edits • Tap to track once at the start of your shot. Once to pick a club (if you want). Eliminated need to confirm lie and location when you arrive at your ball. • Easy edits! Insert and add shots. Delete and start over is an option - not a requirement. • Local Rule E-5 two-stroke penalty drop. I used to tell people that Shot Pattern is not for every golfer because the shot tracking experience is just too high touch. That changes with this update. So smooth. So intuitive. Flexible so that it never becomes a burden. If you care about your stats, my hope is that Shot Pattern is now the clear winner in the GPS app space. My honest take on reasons to use other products: Arccos: Use it if you want to put the air in your pocket and never touch a device. (You can dump your dispersion stats into Shot Pattern!) Great if you play the same course and don’t need strategy visuals often. TheGrint/Golf GameBook: If social features are the priority, these are good options. Shot Pattern is focused on performance. 18 Birdies/GolfShot: If you just want to track fairways, greens, and putts, these are simpler options for getting those basic stats. GolfPad: You have an Android phone. (Sorry Android users (for now)!) ETA for this new version is 7-14 days away. If, once it goes live, you find that any of the above doesn’t match your experience, please let me know. The work on this never stops and there’s so much more to come! Eric
